I have been teaching on VIPKid for a few months and it's a great way to earn some extra money on the side. You choose your hours and each class is only 25 minutes. The slides are already prepared and you just have to go through the content with the student. The students are young Chinese kids so you have to be enthusiastic lol. I earn $8 USD per class plus an extra $1 if I arrive to class on time (which you should be doing anyway).
Because of this coronavirus, I have received many more bookings these days since kids haven't gone back to school yet.

It's up to you and you have to go through an interview process which determines how much you'll get paid. Since I'm in EST, I have to wake up at around 6~7am to teach kids in the evening in China.

Yes, with your timezone, youd have to teach at 3~4am. I have a friend that did that for a while. He did it as his full time job and did well. He liked that he could finish all his classes in the early morning, go back to sleep and when he woke up, the rest of the day was his to do what he wanted.

I think I've been reluctant to sign up because I've been under the assumption you have to start right away and keep up a certain minimum number of hours, but I guess that's not the case? I'm sure it differs by company too though.

As of now, only students can access the classroom with their phone. Teachers need to use the desktop app. The best connection would be via ethernet cable and if not that, a good, stable wifi connection.
My China days are over bro, so my income took a huge hit. However, I am doing my best to bring my life back together over here. The both of us are doing what we can to become more successful.
