The Major Types of 3d Printers and How They Work and are Used

in life •  6 years ago

New 3d printers get released every year, yet all of them have different abilities. This article reviews virtually all types of 3d printers, what they are used for and the things they are useful or helpful for. I will only be expressing my knowledge of 4 different types of 3d printers.

Plastics 3d Printers

Plastic printing 3d printers print by FDM. FDM printing works by depositing some type of filament bottom to top. It deposits in Micro layers until the object is formed. Here's a video of one of my FDM printing fast time lapse!. These layers are melted filament or plastic. The plastics are usually PLA or ABS. You can also use material based filaments like Iron or wood filament. This printer can be used to print almost any object you can conceive of or to print moving or static parts for an assembled object. Many people also make their own designs or prototypes. This printer is also useful for printing lost parts of existing items.

Cement Printers

Cement 3d printers are most likely for quickly making buildings. Construction in China is sometimes sometimes uses 3D prints for their quick efficiency. This printer can print day/night with a good cooling system so it doesn't overheat. These printers use FDM technology as well but by depositing 1 to 4 inch layers of cement rather than a melted material. These printers are helpful for constructing items about 3 to 6 times faster than by people.

Food 3d Printers

The newly invented Food 3D printers make/bake food by distributing dough or hardening substance, it will then heat the plate to bake the dough. They can print such things as pizza, pancakes, candy, bread sticks, crackers and cookies and soon possibly cake. This printer is not fully developed therefore it is not yet used commercially. In future, some custom wedding cakes could be made in this way. Or if an old man or woman cannot cook these printers would be very useful.

Cell 3d Printers

Medical researchers have figured out how to 3d print cells. This means that they can now print organs that may need to be replaced or fill in empty space. When these cells or organs are put into the place of your missing organ your body will recreate what is missing such as veins, nerves and something such as what it does. Example: If you put a cell made liver then your body will fill in the mechanisms or flesh that filters your blood. Cells can also be used to redistribute flesh/cells. This will be helpful if people have bad organ it can be replaced and rebuilt for a good one. If you have bad or depleting tissues they can be replaced.

This article was written by my 11 year old son. He is an avid consumer and investigator of new technology and obtained his first 3D printer nearly a year ago. Since this blog is about all things technology, every now and then he uses this account to publish his articles. I hope those who are into 3D printing or looking to get their first 3D printer will find this helpful and informative. Comments, feedback, and upvotes are truly appreciated.
