Gina and Betty's Kits Have been Waned

Hello Steemians, Betty and Ginas’ kits have been waned from their mothers. I do this by removing the mother from the cage and putting her in her new cage while all the kits are left together until they are heading to 3 months.

The kits learn to be independent now and can feed very well on other food stuff I offer them like potato leaves, yam peel, potato peel, cassava peel and growers mash. These are all good for them in replacement of their mums’ milk. At this point because they are together they don’t feel their mothers’ absence a lot besides their mum on her own has been kicking the away each time they try to come for breast milk. Also they tend to copy each other, so once feed is put into the cage and one goes for it the others join in. They play with themselves and snuff a lot around the environment.

Before they will be 3 months old each kit will be put in their own individual cages because we don’t want inbreeding (mating between brothers and sisters) which will be bad if it results in pregnancy. So before they become sexually active they have to be separated. Rabbits are very prolific animals, if left in the wild they can breed 4 or more times in a year and each breeding seasons can see up to 4 to 10 kits. The highest numbers or kits that have been kindled in farm so far has been 8, we lost 2 before they were 5 days because the doe for some reasons stepped on them when they were been feed.

They kits life of independence has kicked off successfully and they are all looking very healthy and ready for life challenges, in another 6 months from today, some of them will be mothers and fathers for the first time and they’ll learn from practice what it is like been a mother. Fathers are left off the hook on this one as they have no role to play once mating is completed.
