Amsterdam has been struggling with a housing shortage for years, witness the apartment of barely eight square meters that can be rented in the 'Oud-West' district.
The 'independent mini-apartment' is offered in a private group on Facebook, which is called Housing for rent in Amsterdam.
No toilet
The accommodation is eight square meters, with a shower, sink and cooking plate. There is "sufficient storage space", the ad reports, but no toilet so it should be shared with housemates.
Tent on the terrace
The residence must cost 550 euros (650 dollars) per month, including gas, water and electricity.
It is also striking that the 'mini apartment' has a roof terrace that is almost as large as the room - six square meters. In the Facebook group it is suggested that the new tenant can put down a tent there.
Rental prices are high in Amsterdam. An apartment of 50 square meters, rather a studio, is often rented for 1,000 euros (1185 dollars) per month.
