A tragedy initiated the bringing forth of new life. After a mother hen lost 10 of her babies, she fell into a deep depression. What was realized is that we have to step in to maintain the chicken population here on the farm.
Due to drought and other man-made conditions, local predators need to come in to the farm and prey upon our chicks for their survival. We will continue to support the natural breeding of the poultry, but we have stepped in to intervene by now breeding our own chicks in a safe environment.
We are expecting up to 30 chicks, if all are successful. LJ has been monitoring them and rotating them diligently for weeks now. Last night, we had our first hatchling!
This is the story of Desteni's chicks - chicks that will be born into a life of security and support - they will always have good food and fresh water, they will be free, and they will have safety, the way things should be for all Life equally. Enjoy!
