BOTANICAL GRADEN, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

in life •  7 years ago

One weekend I decided to take a walk with my children through the Botanical Garden in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and I found it really very beautiful.

Both at the entrance, and at the top of the Avenue, is the name BOTANICAL GARDEN, made with mosaics of ceramics in bright colors, so it is unlikely not to see the entrance to the park.

This park was inaugurated in 1976 and created with the purpose of studying, conserving and managing the diverse and rich flora of the Dominican Republic.
The entries have a value of:

  • Adults: 70RD $
  • Children: 50RD $
  • Foreigners: 5 $ US foreign adults. 3 $ US foreign children.
This includes the entrance to the Park, Museum and Train Tour.

It is always good to see the map of the park that is in the entrance, to which I forgot to take a photo, but here I show you one that I downloaded from the page web: http://www.achus.info/parques/sitio/Jardin-Botanico-Nacional-Dr-Rafael-Ma-Moscoso.asp

Upon arrival you can go through the central square and the museum, where I found this beautiful butterfly, made with disposable materials and as I was in the holiday season, had a Christmas tree made with recyclables, however I did not see anything particular that could be a museum, I think they should improve this area, since it does not have signage; I do this observation, because in the entrance ticket it indicates that it includes the entrance to the park, train and museum, but it was a closed building and we only saw what I show in the photographs.

Then you find the Floral Clock and walk down a path and wooden bridges:

Did you know…

This park has one of the * Largest Floral Clocks * in the world?, it has 5 meter long needles to mark the hours.

Around the clock there is a pond with beautiful water flowers.

Going down through the park we find a store of souvenirs and the stop of trains, which make a tour and there is a girl who is explaining and narrating the types of plants and trees that are in the vicinity, there are some that are typical of the island and others have been brought from other countries.

Actually, the variety was so great that I do not remember the names of these plants, I only remember that there is a palm tree on the island that is a symbol of the Park, and it is represented on the top of one of the mosaic letters that is at the entrance of the park. Garden, called "* Palma Guano *" with a tall, round trunk, without branches, with fan-shaped leaves, as we can see in the photo:

During the ride on the train, you go through a river where you can see different birds, however, I think they have sewage, since there is a pleasant smell.

Finally, they make a stop for 10 minutes in the * Japanese Garden *, which is really a beauty, full of some bamboos, many trees, a lagoon with several ducks.
Further down there is a churuata, which they rent for celebrations; According to what I have been told, there are many quinceañeras to do photo shoots and in fact when we went, there was a pretty quinceañera taking pictures with a beautiful red dress like a princess.
