Motivation at a glance

in life •  8 years ago

As people, we are all driven by motivation. This is a response that our body and our mind has as a result of stimulation that is either or both internal and external. Motivation is a part of who we are, and a great part of what drives us to be all that we desire to be. Motivation is the driving force that helps each of us determine where we want to go in life.

If we know where it is that we want to go, then when we set out on our journey, we will know which path to take to reach our destination. Individuals who are not in tune with what motivates them have no conclusive destination. As a result, many paths may be taken – those that are grown up, those that are dead ends, and even those that simply lead them back to their starting point.

Students who are just starting out in college, please check this out. The key component to ensuring that our motivation works for us is knowing that this element of human nature depends heavily on our ability to set goals and see them through. Many often daydream about all of the things that they hope to achieve in life, and simply disregard the fact that they must establish goals that will allow them to achieve what it is that they want to achieve.

The simple fact is, dreaming has no influence on our lives if there is no direction and action plan into place. Motivation alone is unproductive without the ability to establish sound goals to drive us in the direction that we need to be in order to accomplish that which we dream of.

Many individuals who dream of certain things to come often do so in a manner where they depend heavily on the “winds of fate” to bring them their desires. If you are one of these individuals it is important that you understand that you can only go “somewhere” in life by determining the “somehow”.

The “somehow” are the goals that you must set in order to achieve that in which you dream of. I once read “By failing to plan, they actually are planning to fail by default”, and this is true when it comes to our lives. Motivation is the process in which you take the time to succeed in your plans so that you can plan to succeed by default!

Motivation is ultimately, like an “autopilot” for life, and the things that we experience in life. Once the goals are set to achieve the dreams that you have, your “motivation” will develop sights on your goals and actually drive you to succeed. Much like a computer that works to drive a certain type of vessel to a target destination, your body and mind will consistently be provided feedback on your progress. Whether positive or negative, you will continue towards your goals until success is achieved.

However, as you are on your way, you may need to adjust in order to successfully overcome the negative. Taking negative things as learning experiences, and turning them to the “positive” will ensure that your motivation is sound.

How nice to see your positive and practical attitude! I always try to turn my dreams into goals, and my goals into smaller tasks and steps. That keeps me going and helps me build momentum, which makes it easier to stay motivated. For me it's a great way not to get overwhelmed :)

Thank you for your comment, I agree with you, I do the same too) It is really easier to achieve goals this way)

Good luck! :)

your welcome....

Great, post, and I would like to mention a few things.

First is that people should really know the difference between internal and external motivation. Those are very different, and one may confuse them at times. External motivation comes from things that you like and admire, like a movie or a motivational speech. That kind of motivation can boost your productivity a little, but it won't last for too long.

What people should focus more on is internal motivation, generated by setting goals and planning them. However, there's another obstacle that can stop people from feeling motivated even when they have a reason to work for - lack of results.

That's why one should do what @koenfolkerts said, and what I mentioned in an article I posted yesterdays - create multiple small goals that are easy to achieve, and that will eventually lead to accomplishing your big goal, in order to always see the results and constantly motivate yourself.

That's pretty much it. Really nice article, thanks for the positivity and best of luck! :)
