What is Love ?

Have you ever been in love? Do you know what love is? There is always constant talk about this subject. It happens when someone just finally realized they are experiencing love, or if they got their heart ripped out of their chest. Take your pick. There is a book definition, but in reality love is not a universal definition. Love is based on experience, personal values and beliefs.
"When I look into his eyes, I see my future in him. I see his warm smile and my heart flutters. My whole world revolves around him"; this is what happy love sounds like. "He took a knife and sliced my heart open. He took everything I gave him, away. He crumbled everything I stood for with just one glare. I stare into his eyes and I see a brewing storm"; this is what sad/angry love sounds like. Somewhere in our lives, we have been told that love is the most amazing feeling in the world. I partially agree. They forget to tell you how extremely painful it could be as well.
I believe that people like to live in a world where "Ignorance is bliss."
We want happy endings, it's something I have noticed. If anything tampers or threatens happiness, people begin to space themselves from anything that could potentially make them happy again. Love is one of those very things. I see couples together who believe in love at first sight, while other couples believe violence can make a relationship. Take any of that away, life becomes unbearable. Life becomes their worst nightmare. Their ignorant state has been interrupted. Once they start realizing they know what actual love contains, they are frightened. They begin to dismiss the very idea of it.
I speak as if I know. Maybe I do, or maybe I don't. What I do know is we reject love. We believe love is supposed to be happy and remain that way. It is happy, but not an everlasting unbreakable happiness; there is work to be done. You don't just get to fall in love without work. Have you seen the classic fairy tales; Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, or Mulan? Did they start off happy, Or did they start with a hardship? Hardship. Cinderella had an evil stepmother and stepsisters. Belle had a brute, rude beast to become her lover. Mulan had a society weighing in their own opinion of what roles a woman should partake in. Each of these stories never started out right, yet plenty of people ridicule fairy tales as false stories. Stories that don't relate to the real world. What do these people expect? A sad, prolonged story? A story that doesn't have a happy ending at all . It can't be. These stories had their own issues, issues that these women had to go through to reach their "Happily ever after."
I have never been in love. Say what now? Yes, you heard correct; I have never been in love; I have liked people a lot, but never fell in love. T
hen how come you sound like you have? That is indeed a very good question. I know about love through experience. Let me explain. I am surrounded by people who fall in and out of love. I see how my friends and families react to the subject. I see the tears, whether happy or sad, fall off the cheeks of my loved ones. Some say love was incredible for them; they don't regret anything. Others swear oaths that it would never happen again; that they will never find anyone like their former love. Others say they don't want love, they in fact feel the opposite emotion, they hate the concept of love. I honestly don't take these people serious, the ones who are oblivious to love. Why? Well for one they repeat their actions on a daily basis, yet they are confused as to why the outcome is the same. They had bad experiences, and I completely understand to be skeptical and hesitant. However I don't appreciate nor understand when these very same people belittle or make fun of others when they love, love. They call them naive. I disagree. I like to think of these people as knowledgeable. How? They've been hurt. The people that love the hardest are the ones who know the pain of love. They know what they are getting themselves into, yet they go ahead every single time, and still love, love. Why? The good things that come out of it. The happy things. The honor, patience, and romance of it all.
Where would I be when I finally fall? Would I be the one who hates love? Or would I be the one who falls completely in love with the idea? I don't know; I would have to fall in order to find out won't I? I know to keep a level head. I hope I give it a chance to understand what love entails. It's a complicated, intricate subject. One thing for sure love is both good and bad, hard and easy, happy and sad. Who knows though, I may just be a delusional girl awaiting for her prince charming that may never come, or the girl who does receive the love of her life. I will never know until it happens. Besides love is a tricky thing...
