BirthMonth Day Five: Coming out to my parents about becoming a vegetariansteemCreated with Sketch.

Like many highly influenced by documentaries, I decided to change my consumption of meats that are massed produced.

Their expression was similar to my friends below. They were less than supportive and had their doubts about how long I would stay a vegetarian, even though they watched the documentary with me and agreed that the quality of meat and the method in which it is mass produced is extremely unhealthy. After a couple of days they went back to their normal diets.

I couldn't just go back.

Mind you, I love meat.

The taste is delicious and consuming it less is disheartening to me.

I watched the movie, What The Health, click here for more information about it.

While you’re reading up about that make sure you check out, Debunking What the Health, the buzzy new documentary that wants you to be vegan.

I always knew pigs and chickens were pumped with hormones to grow quicker, however, I didn’t realize to what degree.

Without going into too much detail, I cannot eat meat at restaurants or supermarkets without thinking about the nastiness that is in it.

However, when we do go to local farmers to buy chickens, we purchase other meats too that are not forced to grow unnaturally. I think there is a word for it, farm grown or pastured raised.

I felt guilty about the quality of meat I consumed. So I decided to continue with my vegetarian experiment. In case you haven’t seen the show, I do not recommend you watch it while eating.

It wasn't challenging to find vegetarian restaurants.

I didn't miss meat. It has been surprisingly a very easy change of diet. Most places offer vegan or vegetarian options.

It has been a little over three months now of eating mostly plant based foods.

Well, if I am being honest, the other day I ate chicken and lamb. I also went to a vegetarian restaurant and ate a grass fed bison burger with little to no regret. However, I truly enjoy how I feel since starting this new plant-based diet.

My steemit friends have been dropping lots of knowledge on me too. My favorite so far is a post from the amazing @Choogirl - So you want to go plant based?. She also sent me information about the addictiveness of dairy products like cheese.

I love cheese too much to read it.

Surprisingly enough, I do see myself eventually becoming vegan. I just have to break up with cheese. We have had a long, delicious relationship. I also enjoy, say, milk with my coffee. That will be tough to let go of too. Maybe the vegan life isn’t for me. Maybe I’ll be a selective vegan. Is that a thing?

My parents aren’t huge fans of these limitations and stopped eating meat for about a day after watching the show. However, I find it a fun adventure to have a vegetarian option. Many of you on here are huge supporters and I love reading about your recipes and journeys.

Have you seen this show? Has another documentary changed your life? What are your thoughts on eating meat?

Woo!!! Thanks for the shout out. Again. 😁

You've reminded me I still need to do a post about dairy.

Good for you for sticking with mostly plant based. That's so cool. Although I'm a little concerned about what vegetarian restaurant you were in that serves grass fed bison burgers??? Doesn't sound very vegetarian...

I thought it was very odd too. The burger wasn't very amazing either. I've had better.

I am a selective vegan. :) I will say that I eat a plant-based diet for the most part, but, still use half and half in my coffee. Do I feel guilty? Mostly annoyance that I cannot just break it off with him.

I have made little detours in my journey, but, my body feels amazing and in time, I believe I will be 100%.

I have watched enough of those programs to last me a lifetime! That is what pushed me to here.

I love your first statement, a selective vegan. Thanks for sharing. Have you watched anything recently on the vegan topic?

That is so cool!

But where will you get your proteins? (Disclaimer I'm vegan so I was just kidding as you already knew.)

Yeah that vox article is fundamentally misleading. Anyone who's familiar with the work of Dr Greger knows why.

His book is a New York Time Best Seller. He and his team have reviewed almost all of the scientific studies on nutrition in the last decade.

Big brocoli isn't as powerful as Big Pharma and aren't as influential to doctors and that's in part why health care/ disease management is a joke.

Here's 2 of his most interesting short.

Look at you giving me homework to do!

Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing this information with me. How did you find this information?

100% birthday upvotes from both accounts! Killing me smalls ;-P

Worth IT EVERY SINGLE TIME!
