Eating Carbs will make me fat

This is completely wrong!!!

Contrary to popular belief as well as the theories of the low-carb/no carb manifesto, Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution, there’s nothing inherently fattening or unhealthy about carbohydrates. Jean Harvey-Berino, Ph.D., R.D., chair of the department of nutrition and food sciences at the University of Vermont and co-author of The EatingWell Diet (Countryman, 2007). says “It’s eating too many calories, period, that makes you fat.”
Now I hate to start off with something so boring, but people tend to believe Ph.D.'s as they don't just hand those things out. Now If there's one thing I wish to impart on people it's that food groups like fats and carbs or meats or even sugar aren't the thing that's going to make you overweight.

Wait What???

You heard me right. Eating these things to the extent where you're consuming more than you can expend in a day will pack on the pounds, not the actual foods themselves. Now I am in no way saying that there aren't plenty of very unhealthy carb sources. There’s no question that loading up on sugary and refined-carbohydrate-rich foods, such as white bread, pasta, and doughnuts, can raise your risk of developing health problems like heart disease and diabetes, however, vilifying all carbs will only make sure you also miss out on “good-carb” foods, such as whole grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables. Not to mention you’d be missing out on your body’s main source of fuel, as well as vital nutrients and fiber. Low carbohydrate diets can also be very hard to adhere to consistently because of the breadth of foods that contain carbohydrates.

When a handful of major studies recently compared low-carb diets with low-fat diets and other approaches to losing weight, they found that early on in the process, those following the low-carb diets tended to lose slightly more weight. This can be a result low-carb diets being more restrictive. Anything that limits your choices will help you lose weight initially. But after a year or as much as three years, weight-loss differences between the diets tend to even out. One recent report noted that although there was a greater weight loss initially, low-carb dieters tended to regain more weight by the end of three years when compared with low-fat dieters.

Summary

Carbs are not evil!
They can even be your friends if you let them (they're pretty nice I promise)
Carbohydrates can and most likely should be a part of a healthy, nutritious, and well-balanced diet

sugar is not good for you! do what you wan't but chill on passing knowledge

Also linking some research if your're going to make claims would be much easier to actually take seriously

Maybe he forgot, as you didn't post links to researches in your post either? ;)

They'd make this even better!

Sugar is a carb, but not all carbs are sugar. What you're saying is like every car in the world is Opel.

Carbs are good for you when eaten in decent amounts, anything in exessive amounts is bad.

I never said sugar was healthy?

I agree with you. In my 19 years of experience, when I need to diet, I have to make sure I include carbs and not cut them out. Keto was devastating to me. I have to control the carb intake to insure I'm in a deficit, but I have to have them in my diet.

I like your blog. Definitely going to give you a follow to keep up with these amazing posts. 😌

Thanks!

Thank you for bringing this to the light. I hate when people get on me about eating bread, brown rice, or beans and think I'm taking in too many carbs. It is not just about the type of food you eat but also how many calories your intaking and how much energy your expending.

I dont know how it became so mainstream for everyone to think that a few pieces of bread is some crazy amount of carbs!

You are right, it is a simple math really...most of the times, its not what we are eating - its how much we are eating and it turns out every single time, more than we are spending and that's the rub...

however, we are sold on lies (including what to eat, what not to eat, but never about how we are missing the aspect of 'spending', even when we eat less, it doesn't help, because we have to spend some at least!...

I wrote an article about biggest lie about breakfast, since your interest is in this area, appreciate your comments on the subject.
