Why I Quit the United States (For a While)

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Everything is changing. We all know it is. I can't put my finger on exactly what shifts are coming (besides crypto ;) but they're coming. The world is restless and so was I. I couldn't sit behind my desk and work my corporate 9-5 for a Fortune 100 company and hope to climb the ladder. So I left the United States and my cushy job behind. So many people have a shell of a life and say they're living fully. If you don't have control of your time you don't have anything.

I came to Europe to take in a 30,000 ft view of the trends and shifts that are coming, from the comfort an old fashioned and traditional country. In this country people still have control of their time (somewhat). People everywhere are tired of being corporate slaves, working at something they're not passionate or good at to get a paycheck. Everyone at my job was smarter than their manager. The Millennial Generation eats all other generations for lunch in terms of worldliness and intelligence. We have our flaws though. We lack the values and grit of older generations.... That's okay though.

Huge things are coming for us. If we're smart and patient we can develop the future we know is possible.

Larry, which country did you move to? I completely understand the urge of leaving "your country" behind for a while as I have left Germany 12 years ago to live in the U.S. While the European lifestyle is definitely a lot different than the American one, i feel like being an entrepreneur and not a "corporate slave" is a lot easier here. Starting a business overseas is almost impossible in my eyes.

mental satisfiction is necessary for every type work or job..
