They give you a hefty book as soon as you are born, which is your birth country's book. "Cultural Poisons" it says. The book goes into great detail about how you feel, think, and act.
That is a metaphor. Teachers, clergy, the media, your friends, and those around you all teach you those teachings. You're enslaved and can't think or feel freely. Everyone knows it's all planned out and memorised.
It is cultural since it changes based on where you are in the world. Funerals are treated like weddings in Mexico. Consider that they outperform us. Burping after a meal is a frequent practise in Egypt.
If they find your girlfriend attractive with us, you should be envious. This can be read as a complement.
Wedding guests must stay up till the wee hours of the morning; else, the wedding is judged a failure. Funerals are sad and emotional. A long life for the dead has no bearing on the book's substance. It's all written, standardised, and learnt. Impatient with change. "Cultural Poisons" is common. It's absurd, but real, and it makes us robots.
Like the book's "sheep," I channelled my feelings through my heart. When I realised this, I left the herd and inquired. I put away the Cultural Poisons and let go.
Contradictory ideas are believed to create. It's like going sick to appreciate good health. Summer/winter, long/short, heavy/light, white/black, etc.
"Everything is relative," Einstein said. At 20 degrees in late winter, we declare summer and toss our sweaters, yet at 20 degrees in late summer, we look for similar garments. Tell me if 20 degrees is hot or cold. Which one do we believe?
Many of the samples originated from the same category. Big vs. little, heavy vs. light... What's the basis? Everything is relative. As a result, only one of these beliefs is accurate. It is neither huge, hefty, nor short. Isn't it?
Along with measurables, there are immeasurables like beautiful and ugly.
The press and the internet enabled globalisation of beauty standards in the previous century. The fashionistas did it. Fat ones were gorgeous, slim ones were lovely, scruffy beards were lovely, and loose legs were lovely. It changes with time and civilization... There is no actual beauty or ugliness.
I realised how bad it was when I heard a bird scratching its head at office. But who taught me that? Who made the nightingale pretty and the raven ugly? There's also the book Cultural Poisons, which has some universal principles. La Fontaine agreed. Everything the creator does should be lovely. It's not working. I keep telling myself the crow's singing is natural and beautiful. Why are we trained to despise a natural element of the environment? Why? What other toxins have entered our brains? Have our thinking influenced our feelings?
You can't see beauty because it's been defined for you.
I used to think these two concepts were intertwined. Disease reveals the worth of health, just as health reveals the worth of disease... You will be miserable at times, so you appreciate happiness. This is ridiculous. That doesn't exist in the universe. It is not necessary to eat a stick to realise that everything is OK. Everything is subjective, like a half-full glass... Seeing it half-full all the time is instructive. Watch for "cultural antidotes"!
It's fine. "There is good in every terrible," they say. When you look back on your life, you'll see that even the saddest experiences brought fresh joy. This is the present and the future. We are exposed to Cultural Poisons because our perspective is not correct and deep.
No matter how intelligent and knowledgeable you are, you will always feel unhappy. The shorter time you spend at the bottom, the better. When you reach the bottom, jump up. And to a better, more rewarding future.
The only flaw is a lack of RESPECT. The only law is to respect himself, his body, his family, others, nature, and the universe. No need to elaborate because no one will read this.
So, what is it? We're not fussed about Cultural Poisons. Sorry, but we don't stay long.
