In the last post I wrote about my move. For the last six months I've been living in a small town Nevyansk with population slightly more than 20,000 people. It is in the Urals, and it is one of the most ancient cities there. Nevyansk was the capital of the Demidov dynasty, they created a small empire in the Urals and founded many of the modern cities there. Enveloped in many legends Leaning Tower of Nevyansk is the pride and main attraction of the town.
I have already spent a week in Moscow and I want to share my first impressions and childhood memories about Soviet Moscow. Upon arrival, I settled in the large three-story house where 12 people live. This is a unique place for Russia and, perhaps, for the world. All tenants have something in common - they all are entrepreneurs. The place has amazing atmosphere and the spirit of enterprise. In the near future I will tell you about this place in detail.
I love hiking especially in the evening and in new places for me. On Sunday I went for a walk in the center of Moscow.
We went to have a meal at McDonald's. It turned out to be the very first McDonald's in Russia.
I've been to this McDonald's more than 25 years ago when in childhood I came to Moscow with my parents. To get into it, you had to stand in line for a few hours. I remember how my mother and I went to the circus, and my father was in the queue at that time. Presentation in the circus lasted for 2 or 3 hours, and then we joined him and spend some more time standing in line together. That's how it looked in 1990:
Another interesting thing that I remember. During the trip, my mother bought me a toy train. It was not available for sale, and resellers sold it for about 150 rubles. At that time the average wage in the country was about 200 rubles. I got strict orders not to say anything about the price to my father)) I found on the Internet a photo which looks exactly like my toy train.
The whole city center was decorated and I as a picture person got great aesthetic pleasure just of enjoying that beauty. Some photos
On one of the streets we stumbled upon a real concert of street musicians. More than 30 minutes we could not tear ourselves away from this spectacle, and even then I did not want to leave. I made a few short videos for you.
This artist creates his pictures in front of the numerous passers-by.
In Moscow even street poets find their audience reading poems of the great classics.
This weekend one of the girls living in the house had a birthday and we celebrated right in the yard. We grilled meat and vegetables, had a lot of guests. One of the guests played the amazing Hang - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hang_(instrument) I want to share a short video with you:
I came to Moscow to work on my startup - community of independent travelers. I do not know the outcome of this story, but if you are interested to follow this, subscribe to my blog.
