Lack Of Social Contact

Lack of social contact is an issue. For me, it is something that I face on daily basis. There are days where I get plenty of meaningful social contact. There are others days where social contact is lacking. And it feels lonely.

I read someplace where 50% of people feel that they are not getting social contact with other people. 50% is a very high number. When you count social contact with roommates, I would say that almost every day has some meaningful social contact in my life.

I work in a very small office where me and my boss are super-focused on work. There is little time for banter between us. We share very few things in common except for working styles which we do very well at. But there is little social interaction there.

I spent a huge part of my day which is about 4.5 hours when you count it. All of that is spent alone on a digital device or in a book. No social interaction is there. It is very difficult in a culture where everybody so busy and trying to get by to have a simple conversation with a stranger. It is a not typical social custom where I live to engage people on the train. Proper manners is to keep to yourself which is fine by me (because I am introvert at heart). To me, to have that social interaction on the train requires a huge act of courage and me willing to take a chance that the stranger on the train wants to have a conservation instead of napping.

In conclusion, the amount of social contact that I get is adequate but it is not as nearly as I desire. However, when it comes to a support system to lean upon in a times of trouble, that is not the problem. It is just those day to day desires. As I discover right now, writing is a great way to cope with loneliness because you are putting words and thoughts to a digital medium to get your feelings out and that is therapy.
