After my first rig worked as a proof of concept for my put a rig in a box with air filters and fans idea, I decided to splurge on something a little nicer than a cardboard box for my second rig. I started off with this 27 gallon storage tote, and about $10 worth of wooden dowels, screws and mounting brackets. I used a $20 knock off dremel to cut a big hole in the front for the air filters, 2 holes in the back for the power supplies, 2 holes on top for the fans, and drilled holes all over for mounting things. I ran 2 square wooden dowels to hang the graphics cards from (I figured orienting the cards parallel to the air intake area would draw the most cool air over the largest area of the cards). Then I crammed it all in there-
For the motherboard, I used #6-32 1 inch nylon bolts, with plastic tubing for standoffs between the botherboard and the crate. Botherboard was a typo, but I'm leaving it because getting the hole placement, the varying length of tubing for each standoff, and the hassle of threading each bolt thru the tubing and case made the motherboard mounting the biggest hassle of the whole thing. A real bother.
Right not it has four GTX 1070 ti and two GTX 1070. If two 850w EVGA power supplies seems like overkill, and the cards look like they could be spaced closer together, that's because I'm waiting on more 1070 ti's to ship, at which point it'll be eight 1070 ti's in the box. Currently, the 2 1070 + 4 ti setup is pulling 3180-3200 sols in DSTM's miner and pulling under 1000w at the wall. The cooling setup is keeping them between 30-40 degrees C over ambient, and no dust or cat hair getting in the cards or PSU to gunk up the works and make me clean out later. Let me know what you think I can improve on the next one, or ask any questions you have.
