Scientology on Slashdot?

Many years ago I was very active on Slashdot, and I remember back then the only deleted post was when someone posted a copyrighted Scientology manual. They wrote a neat moderation system, in which a post started at 0, and could be voted up to +5 or down to -1, by randomly-selected moderators. A reader could set the threshold to read at, so for instance "only posts with +2 or greater" would be shown (the others would be collapsed, and could be expanded with a click).

Thus, their system was designed such that posts and comments were never deleted -- they could be moderated "to oblivion" but if a reader wanted to read at -1, they were able to.

So, now that all of the posts and comments we're making here are "written in stone" on the blockchain -- what will happen if someone was to post that same Scientology manual here?

I don't have any of them, and also have no interest in joining a cult so I'm not going to be the one to post it.

This thought experiment also led to a further thought which I almost don't want to express: has anybody submitted "evidence of a crime that is criminal to possess" to the blockchain? (My understanding is there is only one type of such evidence.)

.

Bonus facts:

  1. The site used to have the tagline "News for nerds. Stuff that matters." This seems to have gone by the wayside, as the website was sold to different owners over the years.

  2. The site's name is a joke based on the URL formatting convention. If you were to read "http://slashdot.org" it would be spoken as "http colon slash slash slash dot dot org" -- which if entered as "http:///..org" would not resolve.

I know where to find the Narconon manual which is more entertaining and also evil that anything you could imagine.
