Kazakh people were nomads before. They nomadized because of bad weather, wars or when they needed a new pasture for their livestock. They needed a house which can be freely built or taken apart. That is why Kazakhs invented a YURTA house. The yurta does not let the wind or cold to get inside.
A top of the yurta has a hole which is called SHANYRAK. It is made for day light and so that people could lay a fire and its smoke goes up. At night the shanyrak is closed to keep warm inside the yurta.
Nowdays you can see yurtas in or outside cities during Kazakh national holidays.
