As a foreigner , I have been in Japan for about 7 years, I am working here now. I was born in China, before I came to this country, I thought Japan is a country will respect human rights. People have more freedom here. But it is not the fact. One thing it makes me think so is that the police here can invade all of your private without treating you as a person, they think they have the rights to know everything about you without permission like your house location, the name of your company, the information of your credit card, and your bank account.
I have been caught by police 2 times so far. It is not because I did crime but the police just think you might be a criminal. One time that happened in Kyoto. That day when I was driving a bicycle, a police rushed in front of me, the police thought that the bicycle I was ridding is a stolen one and asked me to show my foreigner recident card. To me It is no different than a robber force the bank staff to give out all the their money. At the first moment I refused the police's inquiring, after giving a second thoughts, the police even can kill you without take any responsibility in law I compromised and gave the police my ID card.
The second time I was caught by police is just today at Akabane station Tokyo. When I was walking through the subway transforming to another train two person with normal clothes rushed in front of me, they asked me to take out my ID card even without explaining who they are and why they want me to give them my ID card. I felt afraid because I even didn't know wether they are real police man or not. After my several times demand of that they should let me see their ID card, they showed me that.
But it is just the beginning of the nightmare. They caught me to a police station near the train station and took me to a dark room inside of the police station and asked me to show all my private things in my back bag. I was weak to against them because the room is dark even you died there no one care about you. They checked out every of my credit card information and bank cash card, even the tissue I put inside of my bag. They knew if I was a criminal I wouldn't have those card and there should be strange thing in my bag. They released me finally. It took around 40 minutes.
Definitely Japan is country without human rights. Police here is just a violence tool that waste of all our tax. If you travel to Japan I suggest you to have second thoughts on it, because this country that will hold the 2020 Olympic Games is not just as beautiful as you think .
@livingfish, this is terrible experience. It's agood day when I don't see a police man or a police car. Thank you for sharing.

Depends.
If you are Japanese it's different.
If you are not...then you are a foreigner.
It's better in China is it?

They divide people into 3 level, Japanese will be treated well , the person who has permanent resident rights is the second level, person like studying here or stay for short time is shit. But anyway they are just waste everybody's tax for doing nothing.
