Today, I was reading a post by my friend @firepower about his passion for bikes- "LetsTalk—How Did You Find Your Passion in Life? This is How I fell in Love with Motorcycling!", when suddenly a feeling of excitement and fear echoed my mind.

Yes, a feeling of excitement and fear, Excitement for my new passion about bikes, specifically one particular type and fear to remember an incident when I met with a severe accident about 6 years ago.
I always wanted things that only I have or only a handful of friends of mine have since I was a kid. During my school days, when other kids parents dropped them to school themselves, I would go to school on my own on my Bi-Cycle with a few friends. I loved my Bi-cycle.
Still I share the same enthusiasm to drive bicycle whenever I can.
When I grew into adulthood, I wanted a bike not because I loved to drive, but because I always wanted to be showy. So after insisting my parents to buy me a bike, they bought me a 97 c.c Hero Honda Splendor on my 19th birthday.
Which I still have.
Though, it doesn't look too great now, but 6 years ago, it was my beauty.
I was a wild one at that time, Never focused on my studies and always wanted to be among friends partying and enjoying my life. I made a new crazy friend who owned a Pulsor 220 c.c and he loved to do stunts with his bike.

No, Not that much crazy, But did a few small ones like Wheelie, Stoppie and some other stunts that I don't know along with driving too fast like a maniac.
Yes he drove like a maniac on our city roads full of traffic.
So, I was fascinated by his skills, and as a result I tried to imitate his stunts. As my bike was not made to do these stunts and his was, I failed gravely. But still there was a thing that I can do, to be better than him.
I could drive faster than him (yes that's what I thought). But back then what I failed to accept was that his bike engine power was almost twice my bike's, so no matter how insanely I drove, I could not drive faster than him, But I was a nutcase so I tried everyday while we were returning from our evening classes.
So, One of these days, I was racing him while returning back to our homes, our speed was about 80 Km/h, the road was without any partition between the two sides, suddenly a car came in our way. He was able to control his bike and dodge the accident, I wasn't.

Almost like this but the collision was far more worse.
I smashed right into the front of the car, hitting the handle of my bike along with my right hand so hard into the headlight that the glass broke away, piercing almost all my hand, almost cutting my two fingers away from my hand. I was also hit hard on my head and was full of blood from top to toe.
Although I didn't had any permanent physical injury and my hand was saved by 9 stitches with the two fingers still there, a fear was instilled in my mind from bikes.
I still have a few faded memoirs from that accident.
It took almost 3 months to fully recover my hand and I was able to drive once again. But I learned the lesson so I was always cautious and always drove in speed limits. It was only a few months after I have recovered that I met with another accident when I was on my bike. And though this time it wasn't my mistake, A strong fear was instigated in my mind for bikes. That was it, now I will never touch that thing again in my life.
I kept myself away from bikes for almost 3 years, avoiding driving it and only using it when it was severely necessary, But always foreboding about accident.
About 2 years ago, One of my friend bought a Royal Enfield Classic 350 and insisted me to drive it. I refused to but he insisted more and after a few weeks, We were driving it daily. This aroused my desire for bikes again, which led me to bought my own Royal Enfield Dessert Storm 500 last year.
Now I am in love with this bike, and I think it is the only thing I care about except me in my life.
Though, I still avoid to drive it a lot, But I learned a few lesson because of my accident in my life.
You are scared of things, only until you don't do them.
Don't be pretentious in life and don't get carried away by what others are doing, Everyone is in his own race in his life.
If you are driving something in India, Always look for how other people near you are driving and you will come home safely.

thank you for sharing. I too had a deep love to motorcycles until my fiance died on his. I still want to secretly ride one again but I'm not sure if I can overcome that fear.

If you will try to, only for once, I think the fear will be gone forever.

Great post.
I love driving my scooty at 80 kmph on the highway, but i am always too cautious. Let's say I have a strong survival instinct. But I have found a new loe for bikes, driving my friend's Pulsar. I am buying FZ25 later this year! I guess I will enjoy it a lot.

I really liked riding a bike I had my drivers license for a bike, 9 years before I got one for the car.
I had an accident as well. I still have liquid in my knee (don't know what the English term is)
My husband started riding a bike too, he's wildly enthousiatic and I love that, he has so much joy, he can't wait till winter is over to get back on the bike again. Other people are saying; "oh it's to dangerous", and it is. But not to ride because other people find it too dangerous is not living your own life. I love that my husband does what he loves.
And sometime we ride together.
I'm thinking on buying a bike again. So that we can drive more often.
The last time I drove, I notice that most of the fear was gone, it took a long time though.
Loved your post and your story. Have wonderful and save trips :)
