Aim for distinction and virtusity can be achieved through artistic excellence in four different areas: artistic, technical, social, and intemperance. Let's explore these areas in turn. Artistic virtuosity
Aim for distinction and artistic virtuousness have been important aspects of art for centuries. Artists, especially those who pursued perfection, often compared themselves to great artists. However, this is an oversimplified view of artistic excellence. It is important to remember that there are many aspects of excellence, including style, technique, and realism. While virtuosity is often associated with great artists, it is also important to recognize the differences and similarities between a virtuoso and an artist.
Technical virtuosity
Aim for distinction and technical virtusity are two opposing principles that typify modern software development. Aiming for distinction in design will ensure that users receive the best experience possible and will increase satisfaction with the product. Technical virtuosity requires a high level of skill, and is a prerequisite for technical excellence. In the modern workplace, it is imperative to be both creative and technically proficient, but achieving both requires time and extensive training.
Social virtuosity
In this essay, I will argue that social distinction and virtuosity are not mutually exclusive concepts. Instead, they both relate to the same phenomenon. In fact, they are both rooted in political praxis. The term "virtuosity" denotes a characteristic that is intrinsic to the social action that it is related to. In other words, social distinction is not a matter of the 'quality of one's work, but of the "quality' of a person's mind."
Intemperance
There is a fine line between intemperance and incontinence in ethics. Incontinence means vulgar unruliness or giving in to your appetite in the moment. Intemperance means rejecting one's own intellectual understanding of certain political, ethical, or social standards and adopting an opposite, more theoretical, approach. Both can have disastrous effects. But what is intemperance, and how should one avoid it?
Political virtuosity
In post-Fordist capitalism, the aims of production and virtuosity have become linked. In contemporary capitalism, the sui generis "score" of labor is the Intellect, which encompasses general intellectual faculties, global social knowledge, and shared linguistic abilities. These virtuosos' aims have become the pre-requisite for productive action, introducing traits peculiar to political actions. In short, Intellect has become the primary productive force and epicenter of every poiesis.
