Recently @amariespeaks did some posts on prison and the corrupt system. In the interest of supporting her findings, I tell my own story which was very traumatic for me, and which I originally blogged about days after it occurred.
My experience was 3 days in holding at a county jail. I was picked up on a bench warrant executed by a judge in a town I used to live in, over debt. Yes. DEBT.
In 2010 I was in the middle of various home improvements and renovations when I lost my job. I was not able to complete the improvments on my home due to no income.
The state of house and yard weren't in the greatest condition, and worsened with depression and anxiety that I was drowning in over my financial state.
On top of it a pipe burst in the ceiling and caused water dammage in some areas. Because I wasn't able to cover the deductible, water to the pipe was shut off, and repairs weren't made because the house was in forclosure so the company providing home owners insurance pulled coverage.
What caused the city to come after me, was neighbors complaining to the city- I lived in an HOA- and the city came after me for building code and weed violations. I was taken to court, and was fined a total of $6550.
By this time, it was fall of 2012, and I was also dealing with garnishment of my checks for medical bills, which lead to me filing bankruptcy.
I included the city fines in my bankruptcy, but the city chose to ignore it and came after me with a cash only bench warrant. This made it impossible to get the assistance of any bail bondsmen to get me out.
I don't know about other countries, but in the US, being sent to prison over debt, is a direct violation of our constitution and civil rights. This apparently didn't matter to the city of Rifle, Co. or the judge, Judge Zerby.
What's even worse, is that a few months later, my former residence was purchased, and the fines, all placed in a lien against the property (as well as them coming after me personally), were completely paid off. The city and the judge, simply did it out of spite, in my opinion.
The first installment, an almost minute by minute account of everything that occurred, will start being posted beginning tomorrow, Monday May 1st. Please look for it.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. I too was in difficulties due to debt. I was assaulted and lost my job due to the assault happening doing this job. Finances didn't wait for me, I nearly lost my home and was sued. I'm still to deal with the suit. I wish you luck and I hope that your situation ends up on a positive note. Great pictures!

I'm so glad you've decided to share you story! More people need to read and hear what is going on in our country and realize people are being targeted and imprisoned all because of a fake piece of paper the government decided was worth something.
That you for tagging me and I'm looking forward to reading the first installment.

That is terrible. To be in jail for even a night is not something I would wish on anyone. I would really love to read your story

In the Land of Hope and Glory, where everybody lives the Great American Dream.
You tell a poignant tale. That is a great warning to the refugees of the third world. Even with Constitutional Law, one can still be maliciously bullied by money-grubbing officials. Whatever country, whatever federal or state or council gov't, people, are the evil Doers, and dishonest application of law is the bludgeon. And some people wonder why 'the folk' make anti-heroes of such originally bully-busters as Billy in Lincoln County, or Ned in Victoria.
Resteemed. Keep on keeping on. May the blessings be.

Will do. Thank you. My whole life was from 'their' point-of-view blighted by their corrupt practices and bullying over a period of forty five years, but I just kept on keeping on. Those who knew me during that period upheld my stance, no-one in the thousands ever dobbed me in for revolutionary behaviour, and at the last count at court of thirty three charges involving racketeering and the accusation that I am a gangster, (without a dollar, or vehicle, or house or property, mind-you) the charges were all dropped except one for possession of cannabis. And within a year of that expensive gov't failure the stuff became a commodity on the share market, and what I'd been saying about biscuits and cups of tea for the cancerous and other diseases of the aged, is now accepted and millions being forwarded for university research. So, however unhappy some of the experiences may have been, I know and feel, I won. 😇
