Just because it is March break it does not mean kids need to stay home and spend more time in front of their screens.
Libraries in Montreal are a great option for kids of all ages as they offer a wide array of services and activities.
At our neighbourhood library, the librarians and their assistants have prepared some really cool activities for the little readers.
Besides the cozy beans bags reading corner, this week a new building blocks area was added, along with the recycle crafts table. These were a hit!
Children love crafts and playing with these unleashes their creativity. Using recycled materials is teaching kids the principle of recycling.
When kids see they can repurpose discarded materials and turn them into art supplies, they will be more than willing to help you recycle.
They will love creating environmentally friendly artworks. There are plenty of things in your household that they can use for their art project.
Toilet paper rolls, pegs, craft sticks, cardboard, paper towel rolls, coloured pencils, cereal boxes, corks are only a few of the items you can use for a craft project with your child.
Not to mention that this fun activity won't cost you a dime, as you already have them laying around in your house.
You can help save the environment and save some money as well!
The possibilities are endless for this type of art and craft as there is no wrong way of building it.
Children with ages between 3 to 16 have passed by this table and had fun creating something. Most of their creations were exposed throughout the library to inspire others.
Older children worked on similar projects and realized bigger artworks such as those in the images below.
This is a replica of the library building.
This library, like many others on the city are engaging children to be creative. They offer the materials, the props, and an inspiring space that stimulates creativity.
Having their creations displayed just like in an exhibition, children become more self confident and dare themselves to participate in bigger projects.
Besides the fact that they have fun creating new artworks, they actually learn how to recycle and how to reuse things.
In addition, they acquire new knowledge during each visit to the library.
