What the heck is a PILGRMR?

What the heck is a PILGRMR?

What is exactly a pilgrmr? Nothing to do with religion, folks! Although today's nomads were yesterday's pilgrimers, the new modern pilgrimer is a new species. An evolved one!

By modern pilgrimer we define any spirited soul who dared to come out of his 9 to 5pm bubble and had the courage to quit the rat race, go explore the world. It doesn't really matter for how long he was out there, a month, an year or a decade. Point is that he was not the same person when he returned home. Being abroad changed him and he came back with a different mindset.

They say travelling is contagious. It is true. Once you got the travel bug, there is no way out. You have to feed your travel addiction. You have to make your dreams come true which means you need to come out of your comfort zone and prepare yourself for the journey of life.

A pilgrimer is a traveller who goes on a self-discovery journey where the travel is the vehicle enabling him to have the introspection. Each new destination brings an adjustment to his lens as he learns to see things into a new light, expanding his views about the world and the real values.

Anyone who has spent some time on the road can vouch that it has been an enlightening experience that enabled him to grow his tolerance, appreciation, gratitude and patience levels.

The modern pilgrimers are not seeking to escape their daily reality by taking a vacation. They embark on a life-lasting journey where the aim is to learn more and embrace the unknown.

Travellers, nomads, digital nomads, travel addicts, globetrotters, world wanderers, expeditioners, expats or any other curious travelling souls, they are all in fact pilgrimers. As citizen of the world they are able to see the bigger picture, beyond borders, beliefs and religions. They know that it`s all about acceptance and understanding each other!

Travelling is a journey of spiritual growth which can't be realized in one week in Cancun or Bali while partying with friends. That's a vacation!

A few months on the road are only the enticement of what's ahead. While being away from home, exposed to different cultures and customs, the traveller gets to know himself better and also to learn more about the humanity.

By immersing himself into new cultures, he sees that his own problems were not as big when compared with others. He gets to understand his own demons weren't to blame for his failure, but his way of handling them. That breakthrough moment is so powerful that has the ability to turn fear and insecurities into self-confidence and strength.

That's when he realizes that he had the ability to overcome everything but he wasn't aware of it. He learns how to harness his creativity and use it to his advantage, in order to be whatever he wanted to be, or to achieve whatever goal he had set for himself.

Travelling is a big eye opener as it enlightens the mind. It's never too late for anything that you set your mind on. Finding the personal truths and the purpose of living on Earth takes each one of us on a different path that some can not understand, but that is okay.

Travelling is definitely something that opens your eyes and your mind... best done when you are young and you don't have commitments like family and all of that. Although, that said, I look forward to travelling more with my kids when they are a little bit older. Personally, I travel a lot for work... I'm more of a home person though...

Travelling with small kids may be challenging but it does pay on the long run! ;0)

@lymepoet,

Beautifully written, Lavi.

Traveling causes you to question and it is that questioning which is so valuable. Society has a lot of baggage. Some of it makes sense. Some of it doesn't. Most of it we accept without thinking, believing as we do simply because others so believe.

Traveling opens your eyes to the fact that many of the things you assumed to be true might not be. That there's more than one way to skin a cat and yours might not be the best.

It causes you to think and self-reflect ... and that's a good thing.

Quill

Thanks, Quill! Self-reflection, yeah! One needs to lose and find himself first. No better place to do it than being miles away from home.

Looks like an ideal lifestyle.

Many people believe that you need lots of money to travel the world, which is not accurate.

@lymepoet,

My paycheck for the Halloween post I missed.

Quill

very beautifully said! I learnt so much by traveling!

@lymepoet,

My punishment for having missed that Halloween post.

Awesome post - what a beautiful reminder that we’re each in charge of our own destiny. :)

One of the best things that I learnt is that is never too late to change or to try new things. Always a pleasure to see you here, Lily! ;0)

Travelling makes us rich - richer within. I personally love to travel too, its ejuvenating for the soul. According to research, travelling can add years to life. Thanks for the lovely insight @lymepoet.
Xx

Adding years , I will quote you on this one;0)

Excellent post. I envy those young souls that have the liberty to travel--digital nomads. When I was younger, If I'd had the courage, that's what I'd have done. I didn't have the courage. And didn't understand that the option was really available to me. Back then, we didn't have the Internet. Perhaps if we did, I might have become a digital nomad. Now I'm married with a family, grandchildren even. Roots keep us planted, but I can't regret that now. These gems are my pilgrimage.

You are lucky to have those gems in your life. I am sûre they appreciate having you around. ;0)
