Status of The Community Service and Other Things : Body Shaming and Why Don't You Cover Your Hair?

in life •  5 years ago  (edited)
I crossed another date in my DIY calendar ; It shows, 18 days to go. Despite I am captivated by the surrounding, there are some things that made me never want to visit this place again. I honestly admit that the first time I was here, everything was thrilling. Why wouldn't it? beautiful sunset, starry nights, and breezy days. Sounds a bit too perfect right?

As the days go and as I begin to understand the place. I started experiencing a little displeasing confrontation with the villager. There is one person in the village who commented on my appearance and my friend's religion. I didn't mind if that person was only commenting on my appearance but I mind if that person can't accept diversity nor respecting someone's way of life. I didn't mind if some random person mentioned how I didn't cover my hair. I can usually confront them by saying that I don't have the same believe system as them. Yet, in this case, I could not do anything since I am tied to a program and I would be risking my grades if I were to stand up for myself like I use to.

That specific person even has the audacity to say ' Don't worry about your size, you'll get a partner regardless. but still, you will need to cycle and eat apples for 5 years like I used to'. I wanted to reply in the worst way yet I kept my composure calm. So what if I am currently fat? I can lose it once I am back at my own place and I am not usually that fat.I wanted to say ' mind your own fucking business!' but I am tied to this goddamned program. So, there's really nothing I can do about this particular person.

Not to mention, that person was mentioning of how the girls should dress during the meeting with the villagers. Anyhow, others don't comment on it. However since then, I barely attend any meeting with the villagers in fear of insulting their way of life and deemed as inappropriate.

There is so much to cover at this point and I have a little time to be updating here. I will compile everything once I am back to the city. Anyhow, I will try to make my last days here more memorable. Cheerio!

Hello, nice post, made me think a lot thanks. It seems you're learning a lot too, about people, about culture, there arent many things as complex as human behaviour, besides when you struggle with other people you also learn a lot about yourself. I find interesting the impulse you had to confront this people, you say the program ties you up, i think that's a good thing, we all have social restrains, they are necessary for interaction, if you say everything you think everytime, you'll probably end up alone.
I invite you to check my post on human behaviour.
I'll start following you hope to read more.
bye

Been there done that. I tried to not speak what I really mean just because I might need a friend or two.
