The brain is the control center of the body. It acts like a computer as it sorts input information and gives output instructions about how the body is to behave. The size of the brain changes from about 14 ounces(397g)at birth to about 46 ounces(1 305g) in adulthood.
The brain is divided into parts.
Hypothalamus is the smaller less obvious parts. It regulates automatic body functions such as pulse rate.
Three main parts of the brain are the medulla, the cerebellum, and the cerebrum. Medulla and cerebellum are located at base of the cerebrum. The medulla is connected to the top of the large bundle of nerves running down through the spinal cord.

The medulla controls involuntary movements(body movements that happen without your controlling them), such as heart beat.
The cerebellum, which means "little brain", is a small pear- shaped sections at the base of the cerebrum. It controls the voluntary movements( body movements that you can control), such as raising an arm, dancing. It makes the muscles in the hands and fingers work together smoothly. It also helps to keep our body balance as we walk, run, or stand. For example, the person who dances to the music does it very well when the cerebellum is not injured.
The cerebrum is the largest and most complex part of the brain. It enables one to think, remember, make decisions, and imagine. Again the person who dances to the music would not dance according to the rhythm of the music if the cerebrum were injured because it helps one remember the rhythm of the music and follow it. The cerebrum also makes it possible for one to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. Even with perfect eyes ,one could not see if the message did not reach the cerebrum.
The cerebrum has two halves, known as he left and right hemispheres, which are covered with a layer of nerve cells called the cortex. The right side of the cortex controls activities in the left side of the body, and the left side of the cortex controls activities on the right side of the body. The person who is right-handed, the left side of the cortex controls his or her speech, reading, writing, and math skills, and the right side controls his or her emotions and creative expression. The opposite is true if one is left-handed.
