We are called to reign in life. But that doesn’t mean traveling first-class, being a big boss, or you rule over people. It means refusing to be a victim of the circumstances of your life.
If you follow sports, you may have heard great players speak of "being in the zone," or "leaving it all out on the field."
What this means is playing totally focused, pouring into the game every last ounce of energy, and holding nothing back in single-minded pursuit of excellence.
This is how a great player transcends his game. No longer is he a victim of bad calls by the referee, or whether the wind is in his face or at his back. And even if victory goes to the other side, the quality of effort with which he plays still inspires a stadium full of fans.
Supposed you performed all the tasks of daily life -- no matter how menial or profound -- in exactly this way?
The hours will go by very fast. You'll sleep like baby every night, secure in knowing you gave your absolute best -- with nothing more to be done.
Chances are, you won't have a stadium full of fans watching your every move. But your quality of effort will still shine in a world full of darkness. And anyone who sees will feel himself uplifted -- even if he doesn't quite understand how or why.
This is what Jesus meant when He said: "Let your light so shine among men, that they see your good works, and glorify the Father Who is in heaven."
I call it reigning in life.
