Where does the name of this cemetery come from? It seems that the latter would bear the name of the confessor of Louis XIV, Father François d'Aix de la Chaise.
When it opens its "doors" on May 21, 1804 it is 17 hectares, its design was made by the architect Alexandre Brongniart (who was also originally from the Paris Stock Exchange). In the beginning his success was rather say, mixed, it is there that, in 1817, were transferred dead for the least respectable: Molière (died in 1673) and Jean de la Fontaine (died in 1695). As well as the couple Héloïse and Abélard.

Heloise and Abelard (Heloise of Argenteuil - 1092-1164 and Pierre Abelard - 1079-1142)

These illustrious guests allow the cemetery to go from 2,000 tombs in 1815 to 30,000 in 1830 and today it is over 70,000!
To this day it is the largest of the cemeteries that runs on 44 hectares. It is located in the 20th arrondissement of Paris (France). It is also open to all confessions.

All styles are also present on the architectural level, like no other is a beautiful place where personalities have been buried over time.

There are many more I would not have enough room to introduce everything but there are so many celebrities. This cemetery also has a crematorium. Many statues in tribute to events too.

A little video to see a little more :

I hope that you will have liked, for my part, I would like very much to visit it.

I know there is a similar cemetery in Lviv/Ukranie, too.

Oh Thanks to comment, I am going to see that on the internet ^^
