What is it with Vegans wanting to eat non-vegan replacements?

in life •  6 years ago

So first of all let me start by saying, I think that if you are a vegan you are doing a great job saving our planet, respecting animals and contributing to this earth. I respect it and maybe one day I'll join you. However,

What's Up With you Guys?

  • vegan sausages
  • vegan cheese
  • vegan steak

Why do you insist on eating stuff that simulates non-vegan stuff?
Wouldn't it be so much easier to pick recipes where you simply don't have to eat a big chunk of 'meat' on the side.
How about making a delicious pesto pizza without cheese on top?
Why do you have to put fake cheese on there?
It tastes disgusting, most of the vegan cheese smells like meat imo haha and I just don't get it.
Put lentils in your lasagne instead of fake minced meat, and you get the chunk you want anyway :)

Vegans, I'm proud of you but wanting to eat a fake sausage is just weird to me, if you crave sausage so much, okay I didn't wanna go there but damn haha :P

i don't eat a lot of replacements, but boy, I just discovered these Frankfurter sausages and they are sooo tasty. Probably not healthy, agreed, but it's nice to every once in a while eat a sausage that doesn't come from a dead pig =) (@evecab speaking here))

Yeah I mean if there are a few flavours you really like I get that haha :P thanks for commenting! :)

I actually agree with this, most replacements stuff tates bad and there isn't much nutrition in the fake meat and a lot of oil. I seldom eat the recplacement-stuff, but tofu is great for everything tho ^^

Hey @mermaid! thanks for replying, yeah I just find it more satisfying to create new recipes and dishes that don't need 'replacing something'

I agree, it's a lot more fun that way ^^

The fake deli meats are tasty. But it is odd that a vegan would want some thing that tastes like baloney. Fake cheeses smell like ass to me, and tastes worse than American cheese (which is not cheese at all).
Why do vegans want this stuff? Because they are probably starving for comfort foods and don't know how to cook. No matter how you eat, cooking your own meals a majority of the time is the most important step toward being healthy.

Yeah I think a lot of people also don't enjoy vegan food because they do not know how to cook it. If you just take out the stuff you would normally eat, let's say a pizza pepperoni, you would just end up with some bread and tomato sauce of course that is disgusting haha :P but it you replace it with some nice veggies, add some basil pesto, and maybe some really nice sauces then you don't need to add fake cheese :)

I'm plant based and I completely agree with this! A lot of those foods too are so processed they are just as bad for you as the meat + cheese we stopped eating in the first place.

Thanks Destiny :)

Why do vegans crave these things - because they are craving all the essential nutrients available only in animal products, in their misguided following of yet another agenda 2030 eugenics plan to make them infertile...

hmmm interesting!

First, I can't answer your question. But I know someone who can. @full-measure, your clan is up.

On the flip side, I wrote a satire many months ago on this issue. Folks said its super funny. I don't know you that much but everyone likes it. It's probably a bad premise but I think you would too. Here's the link

Blessings man

Awesome! :)

I agree that many vegan cheeses aren't very good. We can all agree that people consume meat and dairy for taste, not because they enjoy eating animal flesh. So if we can create something that tastes just like our favorite animal product (or byproduct), without hurting innocent animals, why not make it a reality?

Yeah I do understand that approach, yet why create something fake, if the goal (I think of most vegans) is to get more in touch with nature, I find it very opposing to then eat processed foods instead of just some nice vegetables :)

you are absolutely right, but isn't it perhaps exactly the goal of the marketing departments which develop such products? Vegan sausages or vegan meatballs are the only way to get more attention from non-vegans. What more would you talk about? a Vegaens meatball or a wheat ball.

Yes of course, yet it is always up to us consumers to decide what we eat. If I could for instance pick between vegan meatballs with potatoes and broccoli, or a vegan burrito.. Hmmmm :)

Most vegans grew up eating meat, and since many family traditions centre on food, vegan meat alternatives allow people to enjoy familiar dishes and some of their favourite comfort foods without compromising their values of kindness and compassion.

Yes I know that, yet the vegan meat replacements are filled with really bad chemicals and are bad for health.. Why not make delicious vegen dishes instead :)

I am not sure how much background research did you do about vegans before you wrote this, but I assume, not very much. How about just checking the vegan community here on Steemit. For example, our #fruitsandveggiesmonday competition would help you to discover that most of us here don't eat these type of products at all. We are sharing tons of vegan recipes here that are made of whole foods and raw foods. And this is only Steemit. If you check Instagram and other social media, you would not believe what is out there. Why don't you write an article about that next time and if you like me to give you some tips, I would do it with pleasure :)

And regarding the meat and cheese substitutes; they are helpful to new vegans
during transition from eating animal products before they can go completely whole food vegan. They're also beneficial to those who aren't vegan but trying to cut down animal products consumption for the environment. Also those with lactose Intolerance and people cutting down cholesterol do to heart disease. These products are still healthier than animal products.
