Steemit is a good idea, great even. In fact, I think it is a model for the new attention economy that is coming. But, here’s the thing, equality, for those who don’t know, is about opportunity, not outcome. Of course some of us are going to do better than others, and some are going to put forth minimum effort and demand maximum results based on their own personal assessment of their awesomeness. That’s a given.

Many users tend to focus on this inherent inequality, and they argue long and hard for a more fair system, but honestly, it doesn’t get any more fair than it is. Each of us gets one vote, and the power, by producing content, curation and investment, to make that vote as valuable as we want it to be. If you’re not having the impact you want, then fix it.
You have the power, even if it’s little by little, to raise your value. Spend the time you now spend complaining and trying to “fix” things into improving your own profile and see what happens!
I think the key factor lies inside the model. There is a set limit to the amount of steem created each day. That creates a hard limit on rewards, or does it? Right now, the price of steem is hovering between $2 and $3, but last summer, it reached over $4 a share!
That means that the same amount of steem was worth roughly twice what it is now. Take a look at your account balance, now double it, that’s where you would have been last September or so. That’s the target I think we should be looking at.
Rather than argue in favor of a fairer distribution system, which just makes everyone equally poor, why not strive for a higher steem price to increase your own rewards? Well, it’s going to raise rewards even more for those with big accounts, yes, yes it will, why do you care?
There are very few places in the world where $400 to $500 US dollars a day can’t buy you a good time. Trust me, I’ve done Vegas on that and it was awesome! Were the price of steem currently at $20, $50, or $100 a share, a lot of us would easily be able to withdraw that much and still maintain our voting power!
So, there are some things we can do, based on the model as it exists, to raise the level for everyone. A high tide raises all ships, as the old saying goes, which means, the price of steem going up benefits everyone, as they watch their account values rise and their reward payouts increase in value. What are they? Glad you asked. Here are four that I think every steemer should begin immediately.
I’ve selected them based on their ease of implementation, and their contribution to the bottom line, the rise of the price of steem.
# Share quality content #

> This may seem like a given, but apparently, it’s not. When you look at most of the posts on the platform, it’s immediately apparent that many of the upvotes are not based on quality, but on the amount of curation rewards a specific post might receive. That’s cool, it’s part of the game and they’re smart to use their votes that way, seriously, I have no complaints. I can do the same thing, and a couple of hours a day picking winners can still pay off big.
But, the lion’s share of the reward, **75%**, belongs to the content creator. *So, even a $5 post nets a bigger reward than a vote or comment on a popular post.* What would it take then, for you to get as much as you want from a string of $5 posts? There’s no more penalty for frequent posting, what’s holding you back? Share the best you’ve got, start with things you know, let your passion show and you might be surprised who will follow you!
# Spend some time curating good, quality content. #

> Stop complaining about junk posts making money, unless and until, you’re willing to make this vow, I promise not to upvote a single piece of content without reading it. Period. If you’re not doing this, you’re part of the problem. You might as well be a bot. Think about it. Then, if you want to take it further, erase from your mind any thoughts of what this comment or upvote will earn you.
## Seriously. ##
*Only choose to upvote and comment on things you find truly valuable!* **It’s that simple**, you can’t solve the problem by being a part of it. Be the change you want to see in steemit! Take the time to choose good content daily, then use your power, resteem it, upvote it and comment on it. Want to go further, start sharing a post a day with content you feel should have gotten more attention, there are several doing it. Follow them and help **upvote good stuff!**
# Recruit new users #
![]()
> Facebook is the world’s largest website. Think of it, while we were all thinking about free stuff, profiles, messaging apps and the rest, Mark Zuckerburg gave us each a sub domain on HIS website to create content for free! Now, he sells small portions of your newsfeed for millions of dollars a day in ads. How did that work? He didn’t advertise much, he counted on people wanting to be where their friends are! He knew we would recruit, now there are billions of accounts.
**Steemit is no different**, as each new user comes on board, the potential for us to spread steem into a worldwide phenomenon grows. So, share it on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Instagram, Pinterest, Google Plus, wherever. Ask people to join you. Share links to your work. Share screenshots of your success, do whatever it takes to get new users in, with each of them comes more trust in the blockchain, which will attract more investors to buy steem in bitcoin and dollars and *raise your rewards!*
# Trade Steem #
![]()
> I know, a lot of people are holding onto every single steem cent. I get that. Those that do will be rewarded when, and if, the ship comes in. Meanwhile, they’re doing it in part, on the backs of those that get out on Bittrex and Poloniex and trade. Buy, sell, make some profit, buy some bitcoin or altcoin, mix it up. Become a part of the crypto currency revolution, it’s going to be the future of our planet. Get involved now, you’ll never regret it.
Why? Because until Steem is seen as a viable investment commodity by “non-users” (those who don’t hold a profile, or contribute on steemit) it has limited potential. What attracts those investors? Profits. Volume. Action. The more sales and purchases that are made on the exchanges, the more interesting we become to people who can invest capitol to make it more attractive, and raise the price!
***So, there you have it. Four things you personally can do, right now, today, without anything other than what you currently have! Rather than sitting around complaining, demanding changes, or arguing that you’ll never succeed, go and do it. Think of this, a $200 stake in Bitcoin at the beginning of 2016, when it was in a similar position to where steem is now, is now worth over a million dollars. Yeah, and they’ve already made it possible for us to follow! So, what are we waiting for?***
thanks for more info.. I can use it ... lol

Every time I come back for a spell, I check Steemit, the official account blog and look back to the point where I last knew what was going on. It's been gone for months.

One of the best posts I have seen here. I agree with you on focusing more on our own contribution and letting our posts do the talking rather than playing the blame game.
I've been trading for a long time, but of course always on a small scale. Everything about crypto interests me. I had to sell the few Bitcoin I had. Of course I wouldn't have made millions if I hadn't sold them before the price shot up, but it would have been a substantial amount.
For those of use who don't have the ability to spend thousands of dollars, Steem is a wonderful option. Getting in early makes me feel good. It gives me hope that - if not today - there's a lot to look forward to in the future.
For that to happen - we need to contribute and help with the growth of the beautiful community we have here.
Thanks for this post.

@markrmorrisjr, I really appreciate this article.
There are so many ways to be active in and engage with the Steemit community. Thank you for the call to action to get off our butts, and get involved.
For me personally, I try to write 1-2 articles everyone 1-2 days. Since my following is small, I have not received much traction yet, but it is good practice for improving my writing skills.
I spend the rest of my time building relationships via comments and replies, and resteeming high quality content. I try not to resteem too many articles so that people can get a sense of the content I create.
Started following you.

All valid points. And yes, instead of getting annoyed and complaining creat a quality post instead. This is exactly what my mind set has been.
I've been here for 11 months, there are people here much shorter producing somewhat nonsensical stuff that crushes my posts. Do I wish it were the opposite? Sure, but it is what it is. Everyone value things differently and I believe in "to each their own"
As opposed to getting frustrated and down....that energy gets put into creating content.

You mean we should be focusing on all of our equal opportunity instead of the unequal outcome of our individual (or lack of) efforts?
Is your name Ben Shapiro? xD Great article!

Everything is steem. Steem power, is steem invested in the platform through either reward, or powering up. It can only be withdrawn through powering down, which is done over 13 weeks, in equal installments. Steem dollars a liquid token, representing approximately $1US in Steem. They are given as half of the rewards, when you use the default setting. They can be sold on an exchange for dollars, or bitcoins, or, powered up into steem, or exchanged within steemit for whatever anyone wants to exchange for. One crypto currency, three different forms.
