I got a random phone call from DirectTV the other day.
Apparently, because my husband and I are such good customers they are going to force us to take free movie channels like HBO, Starz, etc. as a "reward" for being great customers. Of course at the end of the 3 month free period they will automatically start charging us for the added channels if we forget to call and cancel these channels we don't want in the first place.
The man informing me of this "wonderful" news didn't comprehend I didn't want or need these channels because we will never watch them. I also hate having to remember to cancel the channels in 3 months. I use automatic bill pay so forgetting will be easy.
I tried to convince the guy to leave me alone and not give us the channels but something about this concept just didn't click in his brain. Why wouldn't we want these channels for free? They're free.
Never watching them apparently wasn't a good enough reason for him. Being an inconvenience and having to call and deal with menus and salespeople to cancel them wasn't a good reason either. After a 35 minute debate he wore me down and I said fine to the channels. I have one of the lowest/cheapest packages so I'm sure they are trying to get us addicted to having more channels in the hopes we will keep them in 3 months so they can make more money off of us.
Getting free movie channels is nice but I don't like receiving them knowing it is a sales trick in the hopes I'll forget about them or will want to keep them so they'll make more money. The sales guy was too pushy with these "free" channels. DirectTV already costs a lot of money for even cheap packages so technically I don't feel I'm getting much of a deal with a few free channels.
I would not take it, once the 3month is up you call them they will try to sell you again, another 35min wasted again, its all about the upsell. I dont have a tv and cut my cable bill because they wanted too much, this is why espn has to fired a bunch of reporter and bleed money left and right. Say no to cable tv.

The guy just wouldn't say no and wouldn't let me go so I gave in. My husband likes their Sunday ticket for all the football games. If it weren't for that we'd get rid of cable.

Hey, I apologize. I didn't realize you had done that. I'm still getting the hang of things. I just got access to the slider a few hours ago that allows me to pick voting power. When I upvoted your comment I was testing it out to see how much my votes were worth. I didn't mean anything by it. My 100% vote only 23 cents. Not much but I fixed it for you.

Also, I didn't have time before but when people upvote me and comment I always stop by later and comment and upvote a few of that person's posts in return. I like making new friends who are fun to interact with. If you are going to be petty about a few cents then I'll keep my votes to myself. Enjoy your 23 cents.

Lol. Maybe if the new season of Game of Thrones was on I'd be happy but I've got Netflix and Amazon Prime so I have enough movies.

It's okay to hang up on those cretins. You don't need to be polite.

They count on all those things and use them against you. Next time, form a picture in your head of a hand reaching into your purse and coming out with your wallet.
I'm old and crotchety with these stinkers.
