Sneaking In Omelettes And Other Tales Of Why I Can't Take My Husband To Movie Theaters

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Ever heard of someone sneaking an omelette into a movie theater? If you haven't then you should meet my husband. I learned early on in our relationship that I can't take my husband to the movies. He finds it impossible to behave. From sneaking foods in to talking loud, my husband is horrible to go to theaters with.

Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens

We bought tickets for Christmas Day to see Star Wars. Part of our family was missing for the holiday so we got the tickets as a gift for my brother and my mom and we went to the movies since we weren't having a family gathering. Before we went to the movie we went to Ihop for dinner. If we go out to dinner and a movie, @magic-sasquatch will save some of his dinner to sneak into the movie. He could easily eat his entire dinner at the restaurant but he likes having food while he watches a movie. He refuses to pay the high fee for popcorn.

This practice drives me crazy! There are some foods you shouldn't bring into a movie theater because it's obvious you snuck them in. I don't always enjoy breaking the rules and since I have social anxiety, my husband's need to break movie theater rules stresses me out. He likes to sneak in foods that smell or are noisy to eat. Typically it is something simple like a burger, candy, or a canned drink. I've learned never to go to a sit-down restaurant or he'll try to sneak ribs or some other big entree in the movie.

So at Ihop my husband orders an omelette with bacon and puts it in his to-go container which is pretty big. Somehow he managed to tuck his coat around it and snuck it into the theater. This was around the time of a movie theater shooting and I was paranoid a security guard would look at this coat wadded up in his arms looking awkward and would stop him for being suspicious. He got in with his contraband and waited until the lights darkened to start eating. The smell of bacon wafted everywhere and he was the only person who had a plastic knife and fork eating a meal. He really doesn't know Star Wars and kept asking me questions about who people were which at times made the surrounding audience members laugh.

Les Misérables

Biggest mistake ever...my husband hates musicals. I was super excited for this movie because I LOVE musicals. It was also out around Christmas time and I really wanted to see it. My husband wouldn't stop complaining about all the singing. I guess he thought there would be an element of talking but nope...whole thing was singing. This drove him nuts and the entire movie consisted of me hushing him as he cracked jokes about the movie. He got my evil eye after the movie. Years later I told him how much I wanted to see the movie and he said he didn't realize I wanted to see it so bad or he would have been better behaved.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

He hated this movie. All these years later I still hear how much he hated this movie. It was the first movie we ever saw in a theater and he hasn't forgotten how much he disliked it. At least he will always remember our first movie date.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

I love Harry Potter. My husband and I went to see the Half Blood Prince in 2009. As you can see on the ticket it says "child." Now I'm pretty petite and when I was in my early 20s I could pass for a kid. I hated it when people thought I was a kid. My husband randomly decided he wanted to save some money. When we got up to the ticket window he said he needed one adult and one child ticket and said I was his niece. He got the evil eye for that one.

Even years later we still talk about this moment and how mad I got at him for getting me a kids ticket on a date. The idea of uncle @magic-sasquatch cuddling with his underage niece at the movies is a memory we'll have forever.

The Only Theater Movie He Truly Loved

IMG_1431.JPG

There is only movie that truly went great and that was Drag Me To Hell. It was a great horror movie to watch in theaters and is the only time we saw a movie twice.

We finally moved to a place that has drive-in theaters where you watch the movie in the car. Thankfully for those you can bring your own food and drinks which saves me a lot of stress when we want to see a new movie.

So what about you? Know anyone who sneaks food into theaters that's out of the norm or horribly behaved?

Hahaha such a fun story! My mom did similar things with my dad when they were young, and she also had scrapbooks where she glued all the tickets from the movies they watched. She actually showed me these scrapbooks with hundreds of tickets when I decided to study Film Directing at the Academy, almost made me cry :)

Thanks for the laugh! lol .. I do this all the time and my rule-following wife HATES it!

Your wife has my sympathies. lol.

My husband randomly decided he wanted to save some money. When we got up to the ticket window he said he needed one adult and one child ticket and said I was his niece. He got the evil eye for that one.

That made me laugh so much.Lol.. Great idea for my wife... Because she too looks young....
thank you @marxrab fro sharing this with us and made me laugh and give me a great idea for my wife heheh

Lol. Just ask her permission before getting her a kids ticket! Make sure she won't get mad like I did lol. Glad you enjoyed the story.

Whats funny is we had kinda discussed how she had on occasions been mistaken for being much younger, and I wrongfully got the impression she was cool with it. But I found out otherwise when I passed her off as my niece to save a few measly bucks to get into the movies. I just thought the ticket prices were insane to watch bad movies (which was all that came out that summer).

He's a keeper for sure!

Popcorn - I cannot blame a man for not wanting to pay $5 (and the rest) for a tub of that, as to the whole niece charade, that's just genius. Who needs movies when you've got that kind of quality entertainment going on.

Although the omelette is maybe a stretch too far.

The omelette was definitely a stretch too far. Thankfully I've learned no more dinners before movies to prevent more outrageous foods from going in.

You make me laugh:) thank you for your sharing. You are very kind. The world needs more people like you. Followed , upvoted by @mothereathist

I once tried to sneak an open beer into a movie theater, sadly I was removed for public urination right after. I kept on trying to plead my case and say it was beer and not urine, but the ushers escorted me out. Sad day.

Awww....thats a shame. I had a friend get removed from a theater for talking too loud before the movie even started while the theater was mostly empty. It was BS and all because someone complained.

Ya that sucks, at least he wasn't accused of peeing his pants lol :)

HAHAHA Me and my hubby always throw away but by collecting, you can remember a lot :)

I also remember not long after we started going out we went and saw "The Proposal" with your family. I hated that movie so much but your family (and most of the rest of the audience) seemed to really be enjoying it, so I just kept making smart ass comments to you the whole time. Thats another one I never forgot how much I disliked.

I wish you a happy life brother @magic-sasquatch.. If you find a wife like you love

The Proposal will never be forgotten as well. You really hated that one. And that one I can't remember the title where Alec Baldwin was smoking weed but it was so silly and stupid looking that we couldn't get through it.

That one sucked so bad. It had Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep in it and they were just hamming it up. I remember others in your family were laughing about it and I was just like, "Whats wrong with them." You agreed it was horrible too and we just gave up on it.

Cinema nights are ok even for misbehavior, but I remember visiting theatre with my boyfriend at the time...omg he embarrassed me so much that I regretted I didn't bring a paper bag to put it on the head on my way out. People were giggling and pointing in our direction while exiting...so no wonder he is ex 😉.

Lol....my husband is lucky I love him so much. He's done so many embarrassing things! I've learned to slowly drift away and pretend I don't know him.

Hahahaha

Hahaha. That's funny. But there really is not any better than this. Having fun with your husband is the best thing for you in your life. All these things are written in the memoir book. I wish you more happiness and your husband. Thank you dear sister @marxrab

Very true. I've got a lot of funny stories about things my husband has done. We have lots of happy memories. Thanks for the nice comment.

Hey, you have very great post here... May be this is not enjoyable for you but as a husband I found a bit from myself there... :) Followed to see more... Hugs from Spain.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed my stories.

Holy smokes. Bringing an omelette into a theater something that I would never think of doing.

I bought beer in plenty of times and Whiskey on a few occasions to.

We've brought chips and drinks and plenty of other things but an omelette is really pushing it.

Having said that........Drag me to hell is an amazing movie and I would love to watch it again.

Yeah...that omelette was the most outrageous thing he's done thankfully. These days I know him well enough to pick food that's easy for him to conceal like burgers. Drag Me To Hell is amazing! Its one of my favorite scary movies.

My favorite movie theater is Bears tooth, Anchorage Alaska. You can order food and beer.

That's so awesome. I don't think we have any that sell alcohol or more than popcorn.

Hahaha! He got you a kid ticket?! That's hilarious and terrible at the same time!

Les Mislerables was spectacular when I saw it, but I went to the actual play. It came through the twin cities, and we were fortunate enough to get the original Brodway Javert. It was simply amazing.

The worst one I ever went to in theaters, though, was Starship Troopers. I wish I had thought to pack a paper bag, so I could have cut eyeholes and put it over my head on the way out.

Fun post! Good luck with the next movie...

I really enjoyed the movie version. We don't get too many live musicals out here which is a shame. If we ever do I'm ditching my husband to go watch one. The next movie for us will be at a drive-in. We have 2 drive ins and they are awesome to go to.

Have you seen "Dr Horrible", the online musical with Neil Patrick Harris? It's a youtube (click the pic)

It is a 'horribly' funny, campy, cheesy movie that you will like if you are good with outrageous. It's a little old so you may have already seen it but if you haven't it's worth a look.
Here's the link if you'd like to go straight to youtube.com

It's at home so hubby can bring his spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic toast.

You get me! I love Dr Horrible. And I spaghetti with meat sauce is my favorite food. lol. My husband hates both lol.

He hates it? How can anyone not adore spaghetti and meat sauce? Not to be judgmental but maybe he should consider therapy.

lol. I think its something his mom cooked as a kid so often he can't eat it now. I'm the same with roast beef. Mom cooked roast every Sunday and now I can't stand it. :)

haha! you're right, that's the first time i've heard of anyone doing that with an omelette 😂 😂

This post is hilarious! How can he do it?! 😂

LoL very funny! I sometimes sneak food to the movies, but not omelettes! Lol
I have been collecting our movies tickets since 2006.
Very funny post !

Nice writing....
