One of the most important skills to learn in life is the ability to be present and in the moment.
But sometimes the present can become so big, powerful and overwhelming that the present moment is all that we are able to see.
This horrible situation, this terrible feeling, this great life catastrophe...
We can be sucked into what seems to be a never ending pain or misery.
"This too shall pass"
Though our lives take place entirely in the present, it is necessary to not be consumed by the present.
Therefore it is necessary to cultivate a certain form of detachment from the present as a way of maintaining sight of the bigger picture of life.
This situation, no matter how big it appears right now, is only a small part of a much bigger picture.
When we understand that nothing lasts forever & all is fleeting, it allows us to live in the present moment without dwelling on the present.
