What is Dota 2?

Dota began as a modification for Warcraft 3 created by users of the same title and has become one of the most played online games in the world. Following the tradition of counter-strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Portal and Alien Swarm, Dota 2 is the result of recruitment from Valve developer community that created the mod, offering an opportunity for, finally, develop a complete product, their ideas and the help of a professional team of programmers and artists from Valve.

In terms of gameplay, it is more difficult to describe. The game uses the classical perspective of the RTS, but it would not be correct to call gives an RTS. And although each character starts in the level 1 and many times its limit of level is the 25, not would be correct call it an RPG.

Many people have tried to assign a gender to Dota, but we think that action RTS is that describes it best. And although not spend much time trying to figure out what genre is that has invented the game, we can not play it!

Gameplay

Map: A game of Dota 2, boasts a strength for each of the two opposing factions, the Dire and the Radiant, containing a main structure which is called as ancestor, which are defended by several smaller buildings. Both opposing bases are connected by three main roads, which are often also referred to as lines or lanes, they are guarded by defensive towers, as well as the periodic emergence (every minute) of groups of autonomous units called "creeps" advancing along every lane attacking all units or structures enemy that fall within range in addition the creeps appear stronger if your team destroyed the barracks enemies of a line the creeps that line stronger and more life respawnearan those are called Super Creeps but if your team destroys all the barracks of the lines enemy the Creeps respawnearan as Mega creeps that are stronger than the super creeps and reappear in 3 lines every 1 minute, the creeps at the beginning of the game respawnearan after 30 seconds respawnearan's back and then the creeps start to respawn 1 minute always until you finish the game , but if to change the enemies destroy your 3 barracks equipment enemy will be megacreeps and if they break your line two barracks they will have super creeps

the towers and creeps served to split the game between the two teams; the Green creeps are radiant and the Red creeps are dire, in addition, the former are often the focal point of skirmishes. He map of Dota 2 is, in its function, symmetrical, despite having a series of differences fundamental that confers a series of advantages and disadvantages to each side. The Radiant base is located in the Southwest map corner, while Dire this base on the northeast corner, the two sides are divided by a river which divides the map diagonally in half.

The two teams, usually composed of five players each, face each other as the defenders of their respective ancestors. On the map is can find groups of "creeps neutral", that not are linked to any of the two factions and is found mainly in the forest, but constitute a resource for them players. A "Boss" called Roshan that depending on the selected heroes and the stage of the game may require a player to the team to kill him is located on the Southeast side of the river. After his death, Roshan will drop the protection of the immortal, object that prevents the death of those who collect it, resurrecting it with all HP and mana.

If the immortal protection is not used in 5 or 6 minutes will disappear from the inventory of the user who owns it, Roshan to die for the third time to stop a cheese that instantly restores 2500 HP and 1000 mana.

Heroes: Currently, there are 112 "Heroes" on Dota 2. The heroes are powerful units controlled by the player with skills special unique. Although many heroes have roles similar to others, each gives different advantages and limitations to the team. The heroes begin being weak at the beginning of the game, but will go up in level your skills and stats, going accumulated experience during the course of the game, can reach up to a maximum of twenty-five levels. The heroes fighting methods are heavily influenced by its main feature, that can be a strength, agility, or intelligence. The majority of the game modes offer equipment with a time of preparation before the start of play, so can decide the selection of heroes, since the composition of the team can significantly affect their performance during the entire game. Since Dota 2 is highly oriented to the game in team, them players must coordinate and plan their actions with their partners to achieve the victory.

Players have six slots of inventory, which are filled by items in Exchange for gold, the main currency of the game. These items vary drastically in their function: some simply enhance the statistics of a hero, while others give them skills that can be activated or passive additional. Their price varies in relation to their benefit. Although gold is consistently granted (at a slow pace), the most expensive item are normally only bought by heroes with an accumulation of gold quite high rate, what you usually get to kill efficiently the creeps, heroes or structures enemy. Kill characters non-players given gold only to the player who gave the final blow, while killing heroes gives gold the murderer and any close ally, and the destruction of towers or kill Roshan gives gold to all players of the team more an additional reward to the one who has given you the last coup. In addition to the spoils of gold, kill units and structures will be rewarded with experience as players meet objectives, allowing his heroes to level up. 'Deny' is a feature of the game that allows players the ability to reduce the accumulation of gold and experience to kill an Allied unit or destroy an Allied structure before destroys it enemy

Seasonal events: During periods specific of the year, Dota 2 adds new scenarios thematic independent to the game regular, such events have an experience of game different for the player and normally modify them skills and articles as well as some mechanical of the game and the map in general, with the objective of assume a challenge different for the player and adapt is to the thematic. Usually these events they put aside the competition between the two teams and focus on the cooperation of the participants to complete new objectives corresponding to these events. By now there are 3 annual events that are Diretide celebrating Halloween, Frostivus celebrating Christmas and finally the new Festival of the blossoming new event whose theme is the arrival of spring and the new year Chinese. These events are not strictly made on dates but concerning these.

Initially, Valve did not have the intention to implement such annual events so that in 2013 the expected event of Diretide, which had promised to date, never came, causing a negative reaction in the community of players that consequently led to its score to decrease in the pages of inquiry; Valve company was also involved in the process by the particular way in which the players refer to Valve, and the dissemination of the message was even published in the profile of the President of the United States in one of the social networks. Quote:-give Diretide.

Life is a very appropriate tag for this game.

Especially considering how much of mine I've wasted on it.

great game im playing now :D

I have to admit I've never been able to get into these sorts of games. Nice that you can get so enthused about it. What do you think of Overwatch?

Everyone keeps on going on about it ad infinitum.

Overwatch is a great game, but I must admit I prefer Dota 2 on any other game :D

overwatch is an awesome game, maybe it's not ready for a good competitive (Blizzard is trying to balance some heroes, they need time and more game stats)

About the game, you have to try it yourself to understand it. I'm a fan of unreal tournament and, for me, this game remember a lot UT gameplays, so I'm really enjoying this

Character design/story are also very good but what convinced me to buy overwatch were also the cinematics, absolutely stunning

@melchiab @cheftony - It's too late for me for any progress in dota2 but is it too late for me to start trying in Overwatch because it has been out for a while. I don't have much time to play and get good so will it be a waste of time?
Yes have good memories of UT back in the day. Just don't want to buy a game and get repeatedly destroyed by 12 year olds who play all day.

Just don't want to buy a game and get repeatedly destroyed by 12 year olds who play all day

I don't care about 12 year old gamers. I play for FUN.
Remember that quality is better than quantity. If you learn how to play and have a lot of FUN, you don't need to play 12h day to improve your stat.

Most good gamers play a lot of different games and they win a lot because they really know how to play.

I understand but is it still fun if you don't have a huge amount of time to sink into it?

Nice, I met DotA back when the first map was created in 2002-3? I probably have something crazy like 10-15k hours in the game and have only spent around $40 and the initial cost of wc3. Best entertainment value ever.

I could go on and on and you may have inspired me to write an article about it. Sadly the ESports scene has turned out to be pretty gross in a lot of ways and the community is so toxic. But don't let an old man dotas salty tale influence you on your journey to TI. What an amazing game to change the face of all gaming as we know it.

I pretty much played this game from 2012-2016 a lot around 8k hours. Now with family and kid I'm just viewing the competitive games(majors, International).. I guess we don't have much time as we have more responsibilities.
