Good to know there are multiple options out there, thanks Zac for putting this all together. Are you considering moving off of DSL to the high gain antenna? I know you said you were 10 miles away, is that too far for the antenna?

Yeah, I can't get the high gain antenna. The tower is too far. I'll stick with the slow DSL until a tower goes up closer.

We were just about to ditch our DSL for high gain when our local co-op power company sent out word they're putting fiber optic out for customers. We don't know if we'll be included yet, but I'm waiting until I know for sure before switching. Either way, our DSL is horrible and the customer service (ha!) is even worse since they have a monopoly out here. This is good info though, and is sure to serve many!

Great content! We recently - within the last couple of weeks moved to our forever homestead :) We are in love with the area, but not in love with the internet options :( We ended up going with Hughes-net as that seemed to be the only other option and the previous owner of our new home had also used them. So far it's been good, but we are still in the 20 day trial period so we are not limited on our data use. Not so sure how being metered is going to work with our plan - I watch a lot of An American Homestead !!!! If this doesn't work out we will look into the High Gain antenna idea. Thanks for the info.

I tried the high gain antenna and was too far out. Finally my cell provider offered a good unlimited plan so we tether or just use phones. This is good info. Resteemed and upvoted!

Have no idea why @abit or @smooth would downvote my post. At least reply and tell me why?

Great video. You'll have to update it as technology changes. Do you know if the high gain antenna works better (or farther) if you get your own antenna tower (self supporting or guyed)?

We knew when we moved that Hughes Net was likely our only option. We lived with only our phone internet for awhile, and coverage was spotty. Hughes Net is better than nothing. For every property you look at, there are drawbacks. Internet connection was one of the few drawbacks to this property. And one of our reasons to move was to get our kids spending less time with screens and more time outside and doing things, so for us we decided was worth the downgrade.
