A Celebrated Easter !

It has been planned that my stepdaughter and her partner would be coming to visit us for Easter. And so I took out my painted eggs out of the boxes to decorate. This year, our weather has been real crazy and it´s snowing in other parts of the country!!! Yes in April, where the kids would normally search for eggs on a sunny day in the green garden. But today, the kids searched for the eggs under the snow.

I would normally hang some eggs on the tree in my garden but I kept my decoration simple and to a minimum inside the house and hung the wreath outside the entrance door. Some of the eggs were painted by me and some were hand-downs from hubby´s family and some were store bought. As they easily break... after Easter celebrations, they are nicely packed in wooden trays each with compartment, so it won´t break.

The door wreath was bought on a sale after Easter a couple of years back at a fraction of a cost. I simply trimmed it with a hen laying eggs and by using glue gun placed it below the middle part of the wreath for added feature.

And this was the decor I made, the vase is filled synthetic forsythias and I cut some branches from the willow tree in the garden... Also at this time of the year, I could have been cutting branches with flowers from my forsythia bush since normally it should have bloomed already by now.. and as of this date, it is bare due to the cold weather.

I also collect ceramic eggs we found everytime we scoured the flea market. The stalls are sometimes full of them and they are not expensive. At one time, I was collecting only those with blue and white designs and then the flower designs with various colors appeared which actually brought vibrant colors to the eggs. And so I also got some of those. 8Some were given away as gifts to friends.

In the Orthodox religion particularly in Russia ... the easter egg is a symbol of the death and empty tomb of Jesus, empty because he resurrected. The gift giving of an easter egg symbolizes food abundance. The egg hunt is an old tradition where the eggs are hidden everywhere in the garden and the kids search for them. Each is filled with chocolate and other sweets in a form of an egg.

The rabbit bringing the egg is a symbolism that depicts Easter and the rabbit is supposed to bring the eggs and give them to kids that are good, misbehaving kids do not get eggs at all...Lol!

The tradition here in Austria is that christian families hear mass and would celebrate the feast by eating altogether. Although hearing mass in this country is not really taken seriously by the youngsters, they would rather spend the time meeting their clique. Most eat in restaurants with the whole family members.

We did go to our fave restaurant today near our area and we ordered spare ribs and steaks, their specialty. Back from lunch and at home, I served coffee, tea and some cake while chatting about our daily lives and happenings.

It was a truly special day for us because we seldom see my stepdaughter... she lives and works in Germany and takes about 4.5 hours drive from us. We had lots of laughs and fun and so many stories told, a heartwarming Easter celebration indeed!
