GUNS & THE WORLD WE LIVE IN - A Simple 5 Point Plan.

Guns and their place in our society has been something I have thought about often. Coming from South Africa, we are constantly faced with violence and threats to our lives, whether it be house break in's, Hijacking, farm attacks, robbery, rape, etc. you name it we in South Africa have it.

South African was found to have the second highest rate of gun-related deaths in the world at 9.4 deaths per 100,000 people. That statistic is made worse by the finding that South Africa only has the 16th highest number of guns per 100 people at 12.7.

Sitting at the top of both lists is the USA, with 88.8 guns per 100 people, and a prevalence of 10.2 fire-arm related deaths per 100,000 people. In 2013, this figure climbed to 10.4 deaths per 100,000.

It is for this reason one cannot help but try to make sense of, or try to trace what may be facilitating this tragedy. I somehow feel that I would be a lot safer trying to fight off an attacker if he was armed with a knife, as opposed to a gun.

I would definitely stand a better chance of surviving any attack on me when my attacker was armed with a knife, at the very least I could run away. So it makes no sense to me why governments around the world cannot seem to grasp this simple concept and waste no more time implementing a plan to eliminate the one thing that obviously is the route to this problem, that being guns and firearms of any kind.

A SIMPLE & FAIR 5 POINT PLAN:

1. A Blanket BAN on ALL civilian firearm ownership.

2. Offer a grace period of 2 years to hand in any firearms. Anyone may hand in "illegal" guns. NO QUESTIONS asked.

3. Pay the market value for those firearms handed in. (subsidised by government - tax payers money anyway)

4. After the 2 year grace period all civilian firearms would be illegal, and would be confiscated, if found, without compensation, and the owner locked up for 2 years.

5. Firearms collected could be redistributed to the army, police force, etc. or melted down for use elsewhere.

This may be a crazy and stupid idea, but I truly do not see any other way of sorting the problem out once and for all. There would be less crime less violent killings, and our world would be a tad bit safer. I assume there are many pro-gun owners who would disagree, if so then please tell us how to solve this world wide crisis we have on our hands.

Please forgive me if this comes across as ignorant, as I may not be looking at this in a detailed manner, but sometimes the simplest solution is the best solution

I understand and accept that there will be many people with counter arguments. This is simply my thoughts on the matter and a genuine cry to governments for the sake of future generations.)
