An essential oil is the volatile, aromatic liquid that is inside shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. The essential oils circulate throughout the plant and provide it with protection against predators and disease, fight infection and initiate cell regeneration within the plant. Volatile simply means the ability to leap into the air. Essential oils have this ability and is the reason why you are able to smell oils across the room or just by opening the bottle.

The essential oil of the plant acts as the plant’s immune system. The essential oil takes the plant’s protective properties – their natural defense mechanism – and is carefully extracted through steam distillation, cold pressing and resin tapping. It is this process that makes essential oils so powerful, concentrated and therapeutic.

Why do essential oils improve the immune system? It is their job, their purpose, and how Mother Nature intended them to protect.

The oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they were extracted. If a leaf or any part of a plant has been cut or damaged for some reason, the plant releases the essential oil and helps the plant to regenerate itself. This liquid is the essential oil that helps the plant to survive, which is why essential oils are called essential. Put simply, without the essential oils, the plant can't survive.

By using essential oils, we are getting the complete chemical profile in every drop. Get on the oily train to healthy living!
