In Africa,70% of the population are youths from different countries that make up the African continent.
Nigeria is a country with 180million people and 45% of the entire population are youths. Youths who have proven themselves in various areas and become successful, competing favourably with their contemporaries from other countries.
As youths, we all have a responsibility to stand up and be counted. Though often maligned, we've managed to come to the fore and raised up our hands to be counted.
The government too has a responsibility to the numerous youths, some of who look up to them for help. From creation of employment opportunities, to suitable environment for success, infrastructure, better and conducive working conditions, the government is obligated to provide these to enable the youths succeed and compete with their mates from other climes.
Most times, the government has failed in its responsibility to the youths and its left for us to take the bull by the horn and carve a niche for ourselves. Make brave decisions, take risks for the betterment of our future.
This we can achieve if we all come together. With one mind, one heart and one spirit and stand together. There's so much we can achieve together as a team instead of hating and trying to bring each other down. The sky is large enough for us all to fly and as such, our future is entirely in our hands.
This year's International Youth Day is an opportunity for youths from all over the country to take a stand, and make a decision for our futures.
In Akwa Ibom state in particular, the youths have distinguished themselves remarkably and have been vested with responsibilities of leadership in various sectors.
Akwa Ibom Youths, let's all come together as one and with one voice. The future is ours to take and make the most of it.
Yes, we can do this if we believe.
Happy International Youth Day in advance.
