Kitchen Mishaps and Disasters (It's Bound to Happen)

in life •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello DTube and Steemians!

In this vlog episode, I want to tell you about a couple of kitchen mishaps and disasters that I have had. If you are in the kitchen long enough, at some point you are going to have some kind of mishap or disaster. Now the two stories I am going to tell you about aren't the only ones I have had in my 30 plus years of cooking and baking, but they are some of the most memorable ones. I encourage you to write a comment down below and let me know about your most memorable kitchen mishaps and disasters. :) Let's get started!

Don't forget to follow/subscribe, upvote, and re-steem if you like. :)

The first story involves me making Chocolate Balloon Bowls. I always thought they were super easy to make, you just take some chocolate, melt it, take a balloon and fill it up, then dip the balloon in the chocolate, let it cool and there you go! So I did that, and when I dipped the balloon in the chocolate the balloon popped, spraying chocolate all over me. I wish I had a picture or was rolling camera when that happened. That would have been awesome. Needless to say, you need to use a thicker walled balloon, I recommend using water balloons.

You can watch my old YouTube video on chocolate balloon bowls here:

The next scenario happened when I was I think 12 years old. I decided to be a big boy and make dinner for the family. I was a budding chef, so yeah, gotta prove myself. I decided to make spaghetti. After the spaghetti noodles had cooked, I was bringing the large pot of just finished boiling water and noodles over to the sink so I could drain them, when the left handle on the pot broke, I dropped the pot, and the pot landed on my right food, then of course tilted over and spilled all the spaghetti and almost boiling water onto my left food.

Of course I was barefoot. I mean who doesn't cook barefoot in the kitchen?? (By the way I still cook barefoot in the kitchen....lol) It hurt really bad. I did get out of PE at school for a week, so there's that. Bright side people, always look on the bright side.

I would love to hear about your kitchen horror stories, or funny mishaps, disasters, etc. Drop a comment down below and share a story with me. :)

when i only seen title of this video, i knew i must see this ! i have learned cooking mostly from internet, wasted most of time my mom spend with me trying to teach me to cook. i preferred books at that time , so cooking and reading at the same time, i had a few adventures! since i rather not read books and cook at the same time, i still have a lot of adventures in my kitchen, while trying out different recipes - that's why i called my channel mykitchen lab ;-) my last one I think was in December 2017, so I'm not doing too bad! I was tryig to do a cake which we call 'a cow' and it is a sponge cake with custard and caramel - ver very nice cake , epecially when you have good recipe.

as i had good recipe, i decided to try for my hubby - he loves this cake. what could go wrong? wel... sweetened milk could explode? :D it was Christmas eve. we were preparing so many things at once, and as it was very late i didn't pay enough attention to every single stage of cooking. i think it was just before midnight and i spend there already a day! as you can imagine, water evaporated from the pan, and metal can started to 'grow'. I have heard some strange noise and turned around, and noticed it looks unusual. as iwas afraid of what could potentially happen, i asked my husband to check it, and just at the moment when he only touched the pan, it exploaded! on 1/4 of our kitchen! floor...radioator...cooker...fan...wallls...blinds..husbad (!) and the ceiling!

we were cleaining a good 2 hours! :D :D

we still tried to finish ake next day, but other method. since then i bought this cake once, i don't know when i'm gonna to try to do it on my own :D :D

is your foot completety back to normal after this incident? my gosh it must have been so painful!

btw - that idea with chocolate baloons is so antastic, you amazed me with this ! couldn't close my mouth from excitement :D and good you said what kind of baloons to use, as i'd probably go for the normal ones and repeat your story! :D

another of my stories, whic you remembered me was when i was preparing a lunch for my family - very traditional polish meal, rice with mashed strawberries. everything was doing great until i realised that i added salt instead of sugar! it was in my auntie's kitchen, so i didnt know that was where she stored salt! i really can't remember what we've eaten on that day, as i must have wasted like 2 kilograms of strawberries! everybody was so hungry and annoyed, haha.

there is always fun in the kitchen.

ps i like you @mrchef111 , you are so positive and nice guy, and i must say you are real chef in the kitchen ! keep it going :)

@mrchef111 i do apologize for masive comment... when i like something, i can't stop talking! :D

hahahaha no worries. :)

😉

Well thank you for your support! And those are some great stories of your own! :) Yes my foot healed completely without any lasting issues. Definitely try making the chocolate balloon bowls, they are great! :)

oh, that's good. stories in kitchen are good, but if we ensure that they will affect rather kitchen than the health, cause as you said then it isn't very funny :D
i must, especially when we will have some kids coming round :)

Yup always need to be careful when you have kids coming around. :) I prefer the funny stories, where no pain is involved, only hurt egos. LOL

Ouchhhh...that is a disaster indeed. Wow..I thought me burning a pizza was considered a disaster lol totally changed my perspective here.

hey you know what, any time something doesn't go according to plan, it's a disaster right? lol this other time I was making bacon wrapped smokies for a snack before Thanksgiving Dinner. I took my eye off them for like 1 minute, while they were under the broiler....then all kinds of smoke, smoke alarm went off...lol they got pretty burnt and crispy. I was pretty mad. LOL but guess what, they wound up still tasting pretty awesome....the power of bacon....LOL

Haha! I made biscuits that never rose, but my kids ate them anyway. My philosophy is if you are going to make something for a group of people, keep to a tried and true recipe! How cool are those chocolate balloon bowls!!!

hahaha yeah, honestly some kitchen mishaps can turn into pleasant surprises as well. I am sure in the olden days that is how new dishes were created. haha. Yes!! Balloon bowls are fun! That will be fun to do with the kids. Let me know how it goes if you do it. Remember, water balloons! haha

One of the recent mishaps happened while i was in Vegas. I came home ton find out my daughter has used cooking spray in my good pans. The pans heat up a lot more than normal pans so the spray ended up burning onto the surface and messing it up. We tried for about 20 minutes to get it off, but it looks like it may be burned on there forever.

oh no!! sorry to hear that. I remember taking one of my good skillets camping, and didn't realize the fire would make the whole thing completely black on the bottom, and it was a pain to get off. I guess you tried using steel wool on the stain? maybe barkeepers friend? I am sure you tried everything.

Hello Mrchef thank You so much. You made me remember my past funny cooking experience. That was horrible and that day nobody had the food except me.. I made that much horrible. However thanks Mr.Chef thought me back to my past cooking memories.

thank you! haha yeah it is fun to relive old cooking memories. hahaha :)

OUCH!!!!! That sounds painful. The worst kitchen mishap I ever had was while I was training to be a manager for the restaurant chain I worked with. Every manager does 4 weeks of kitchen training. One night around the end of my training the head chef for the entire company was at our store to do an inspection and check-in. I was working in the saute section making pasta dishes and this required us to often cut up chicken to place on top of the pasta. I was feeling a little too confident in my knife skills and while he was standing in the expo area I was trying to show my "skills". I ct a piece of chicken a little too fast and ended up taking a big chunk out of my hand. I quickly looked at my partner for the night and excused myself to the back so I could bleed in peace. LOL Stillhave the scar to remind me.

hahaha yeah it was a bit painful. Wow yours sounds painful as well! And yours left a scar! I don't have any lasting effects on my foot at least. I think anytime you use a knife long enough in the kitchen you are bound to be cut haha. Glad you were able to find somewhere to bleed in peace. lol :)
