I gave up gardening as I was spending less and less time at home. I declined a neighbour's offer to help care for my plants during my long absences and instead gave away my prized potted plants.
A few weeks ago, I bought a few stalks of lemongrass (with roots already chopped off) and potted the hardy plant with the view that it requires almost no care at all. After all, it is just like tall grass except that it adds terrific scent and flavour to curries.
For three weeks or so, the plant was growing steadily. I placed the pot in the shade so that the young shoots would not be scorched by sunlight. Then I had to make an impromptu trip for two weeks. When I came home, the plant has completely dried out. I tried reviving it for the next few days with daily watering but without any avail.
This failed effort really got to me.
