You can eliminate self-criticism from your life in many ways. The first thing to do is accept the fact that you have done things that may have been wrong and to learn from them. If a mistake occurs, apologize for it and move on. It is only through this process of constantly learning and changing that mistakes can be erased and learned from.
Many people are good at identifying what they want to change and how to make changes. Unfortunately, they also have a difficult time eliminating self-criticism. For them, criticism is a constant thorn in their side, causing them to feel bad about themselves constantly. They feel the need to criticize themselves and become perfectionists in their areas of self improvement. Here are 6 ways that you can eliminate self-criticism from your life.
Take responsibility for your own behavior. This is the most important step towards overcoming this habit. Do not blame yourself or others for your own poor behavior. If you don't want to change, then don't indulge in criticizing yourself or others. It's a good way to lose control of your actions and become completely passive.
Focus on your successes and celebrate them. Self Improvement involves knowing where you stand and knowing what you want to improve in yourself and your life. In order to focus on these things, take the time to think about what you want to achieve. When you give yourself realistic goals to work toward, you will be more motivated to meet them and to enjoy them. Instead of spending your time brooding over the past or dwelling on what could have been, focus on today and what you can do today to improve yourself and your circumstances.
Learn to recognize your own negative self-talk and replace it with positive self-talk. Watch other people's behavior and adopt similar patterns. Watch the words they use and adopt similar habits. If you find that other people are using negative language to belittle you, consciously reject their thoughts by repeating positive statements like "I am a valued and perfect employee" or "I am always willing to learn new things." The truth is that these types of statements erase negative thought patterns from your mind and replace them with positive ones.
Identify your limiting beliefs and replace them with optimistic beliefs. A great technique for this is to write down your negative beliefs and describe how they affect you and how they would make you feel if you were to adopt them. For example, if you believe that you are worthless, write down that fact. Once you have identified your limiting beliefs, replace them with optimistic ones. Now you know why you are self-critical and why it is necessary for you to eliminate self-evaluation.
When you are in the presence of other people, tell them how great they are, but don't give them personal praise. Let your actions speak louder than your words. For instance, if a co-worker is bad at taking instructions, tell him, "You are really not that good. Everyone has their own qualities that they need to work on." Doing this will help build a positive image about you and remove self-critical thinking.
Finally, use this advice to eliminate self-evaluation. Whenever you engage in self-criticism, change it into a positive habit. For instance, if you criticize others, tell yourself, "People can only be happy if they accept and love themselves." Instead of thinking, "I'm awful and the people in my life must be miserable," think instead, "My friends and family love me very much. They are the reason I'm doing what I am doing today."
