Why do people criticize?

Criticism is a positive intention carried out with a negative action. Though the intent of the criticizer is good, the action (of informing the concerned individual/group) is negative. Since the action is negative the results are always negative. Criticizers fail to understand that it will have a negative impact at the receiving end.

A criticism is always pointing out a task which was carried out is wrong way. Informing that a particular task is done wrong does not yield results. It is more important to inform that the task can be performed in a certain manner (showing the right direction) which will be more fruitful. This way the task is also corrected and the concerned person/group is also not hurt. The larger advantage of this is that same mistake (mistake of the task not being carried out in the right way) will not be repeated in the future. If however the person is criticized, it is highly likely that the same mistake is repeated again in the future.

Most criticizers are either superiors or elders who, even after years of experience, fail to have a certain level of maturity to handle the situation. This is usually because of the past experiences in their life. They have been at the receiving end of criticism at the early stages of their life or career. No one has ever taught them how to get a task done without criticism or condemnation.

Every individual needs to think twice before criticizing. He/She needs to find another way of conveying the message/feeling. There are always multiple solutions to the same problem and criticism is definitely not the best. Anyone who wants to build his/her character and do the best for the people around them, should always take the effort to find the best solution to the problem without hurting them.

I'd like to conclude here by saying that we need to pity the individuals who criticize. The reason being, they have failed to learn to convey a message without criticism. It is easier for them to vent out the anger and criticize but tougher to stay on the calmer side of things. May god bless them all with the right frame of mind to handle situations.
