I support three high-level executives - Mr. OCD, The Joker, and Ms. Sweetie-Pie.
Words cannot express how fortunate I am to have drawn these particular individuals as my bosses.
Ms. Sweetie-Pie, for Christmas - less than a month after I became her assistant - sent me a $150 gift card for a fancy steakhouse near my office.
For my birthday a month later, it was a gift certificate to a day spa for a massage and mani/pedi.
I helped with scheduling a series of interviews with a client - just part of my job - and she told me to take the über-hub out for a nice meal and charge it to the project, with a budget of $100.
You can see where she got her nickname, right?
Mr. OCD likes to pay me for outstanding work in chocolates. Whenever he travels to a different country he will bring me a box of fancy local chocolates.
So far, surprisingly enough, the ones from Argentina have been my favorites. I’ve also gotten them from Paris, Calgary, Brussels, and Lisbon so far.
About once a year he also tells me to choose any restaurant in the city and takes me and the other Houston Executive Assistant out for a fabulous dinner with drinks and lots of laughter.
But The Joker - this guy is a piece of work.
He sent flowers and a card for my 40th birthday and a gift basket of lavender-scented bath products for my 41st. This by itself is above and beyond what most Partners do.
When he learned that the UH and I are going on vacation to San Francisco, though - his favorite city in the world - he said he would give us some hotel recommendations.
Then he proceeded to book us hotel rooms for the nights we’ll be in the city, at really amazing hotels we would never have been able to afford, using his reward points.
These rooms would have been $300-$400 a night, minimum.
He wanted to book us into a resort in wine country for while we’ll be there too, but we’d already paid for an AirBnB at a horse ranch, which looks pretty cool.
I think that is just incredibly generous of him.
Indeed, I am a lucky Kittie!
There is a reason that my bosses tend to find themselves in first class seats when they fly, and enjoy the nicest hotel rooms I can possibly find them.
I love my job.
