Daily Creative Challenge 10 - GET MOTIVATED BY DEATH (Straight From The Heart!)

in life •  7 years ago

Dear Friend,

Let's talk about life and death for a moment. These are topics that we run away from often times. Perhaps because of fear of the unknown.

Take a look at this graveyard. How many tombs can you see? Innumerable right? Thats because many people have died and many will keep dying. Perhaps you may even know someone who has passed on. Its the reality yet we avoid it like the plague.

Our culture has made it even worse. Whenever you talk about death, people immediately think of ghosts & other bad spirits associated with it. This triggers fear. The fear of death is a very common one.

Religion too is a common conspirator of these theories of the after-life and all. But is it really supposed to worry us?

I think what we should all be afraid of is living a worthless life. All living creatures have worth and are good. However, worthless in this context is synonymous with selfish. It doesn't add value to other people.

That's the metric I use for judging life and death; value. Death is not a matter of age. Its a matter of intrinsic and extrinsic value added to other people's lives. Think about it.

Jesus Christ died at 33yrs. Hmmm! You say? Martin Luther King Jnr died at 39yrs. Tupac Shakur died at 25yrs. You see these men I have tried to pick from random works of life to show you the impact one can make in a very short time.

Even though Mandela died at a ripe age of 95yrs he died happy and fulfilled because he achieved alot. What about Mahatma Ghandi? So what are you waiting for before you begin to live a valuable life? Old age?

Life and death are constant but what varies greatly is what you have used yours to do. Don't waste this opportunity of life.

Everyday as a health professional, I get to see people pass on to the great beyond. Some die happy; some die sad. Some die organized; most die unplanned. Some die as heros; most die unnoticed. Some die rich; most die poor.

For me these are all options we can chose from. How you will die is proportional to how you have lived. The specific circumstances may vary but the rational is all the same.

Think about it. Get motivated by death as much as by life too. Cheer up and live life to the fullest because you ain't dying yet.

Excellent post as always @nairadaddy. Thank you. This is an amazing quote:

Everyday as a health professional, I get to see people pass on to the great beyond. Some die happy; some die sad. Some die organized; most die unplanned. Some die as heros; most die unnoticed. Some die rich; most die poor.

It's so true. God blesses some, while others choose a different path. It's in our nature to try to do things our way, and so often we discover that things do not work out the way we plan. Everybody serves somebody until their last breath. It's just a matter of who we choose to serve. Will we serve the one who made us and others around us? Or will we go our own way and serve ourselves first? Will we ever truly have rest for our souls?

It reminds me of the words proceeding from the mouth of Yah:

Behold, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. Deuteronomy 30:15-16

Life is good, death is the enemy. The reward for our faithfulness is eternal life. What an amazing promise! Bless the Most High!

@ironshield

Wow @ironshield. Thanks for stopping by. The Biblical quote you dropped made sense. Indeed Yahweh, has given us all the options. Its left for us to choose our path because we have a will. Cheers!

Great one there @nairadaddy

You are welcome bro. Cheers!

Good post, in that it makes people think and give pause for reflection!

Personally, I do not necessarily agree that quantity of accomplishments should be what makes someone happy though, during life nor in death. But rather, it is the attitude to which we subscribe that is the defining factor. Some people have nothing, but are still immensely happy, because they live in the moment and appreciate life and the things around them. And so it is with death, I believe, that we can be happy going into it if we understand it to be part of the beeautiful cycle of existence. That's just my two cents, for what it they're worth. #steemitbloggers

Hey @thekittygirl, I'm glad you stopped by with a comment that has soul. I appreciate.

On the matter of discourse, you said;

I do not necessarily agree that quantity of accomplishments should be what makes someone happy though, during life nor in death. But rather, it is the attitude to which we subscribe that is the defining factor

Yeah. I definitely agree with you. I never intended to paint a picture of the otherwise. Rather I wanted us to see the multiple life goals and achieve them all as we head towards death. Check my words:

Everyday as a health professional, I get to see people pass on to the great beyond. Some die happy; some die sad. Some die organized; most die unplanned. Some die as heros; most die unnoticed. Some die rich; most die poor.

Eventually though I agree with you that happiness is the ultimate achievement.

Thanks once more for doing justice. I look forward to a great here on this platform. Cheers dear!

What a good and thought-provoking post, @nairadaddy !

I remember when Ben (@ironshield) and I were caring for his grandma at the end of her life, there was a point at which we were making a decision to bring her home from the hospital essentially to die. She had a stroke which paralyzed her ability to swallow properly and we knew a feeding tube wasn't an option for her. Several family members were unsettled by the thought of Grandma dying in our house. We found this a little odd but gradually understood it was because we are so separated from death that no one knew quite what to expect and were afraid of the unknowns associated with Grandma dying.

I realized suddenly that the answer to their worries was very simple: "Yes, she will die in our house. But she's going to be living right up until the second she dies. We'll be caring for a living person, not a dead person. And that living person is someone we love."

Our life is like that: as you say, our life is about living and the thought of dying should simply be motivation to keep right on LIVING until the second we must stop.

Thanks so much @lturner for sharing the experience of nurturing a dying grandma. Its in those sort of times that we get the opportunity to think about life and death.

I realized suddenly that the answer to their worries was very simple: "Yes, she will die in our house. But she's going to be living right up until the second she dies. We'll be caring for a living person, not a dead person. And that living person is someone we love."

A deep quote full of multiple shades of meanings.

Cheers to living a life that is so cool that death will no longer be a problem.

Amazing post on reality of life @nairadady

Thanks @munawar1235. Cheers!

Living a worthless life is like not living at all.
