Deeper than rap, we lost a special one, RIP Nipsey Hussle

I woke up Monday morning saddened by the news that rapper Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed last night outside his clothing store. To be honest, I don't follow rap music (or any music) now as I did in my DJing days, however, Nipsey Hussle was one of a handful of rappers on my radar. Less for his music and more for his entrepreneurship.

Crypto link

It was October 2017, (I remember because I was getting geared up to go to Steemfest 2 in Lisbon) when I came across a video where he was talking about cryptocurrency and Followcoin (a social crypto-trading platform he ws involved in):

By the way, he talked about crypto, I could see that he was more than a celebrity, 'putting his name' to a crypto asset. He understood the significance of cryptocurrency.

Although I didn't invest in Followcoin, I was prompted to dig a little deeper into Nipsey Hussle. An LA rapper, in Amsterdam, talking about his cryptocurrency investment isn't something you see every day.

Conscious Builder

I quickly understood that this was not a run-of-the-mill rapper. In an era of narcissism and self-indulgence, his agenda was one of wealth-building, community-building, and self-awareness:

From Vector 90 (a WeWorks style workspace for tech start-ups in Crenshaw) to his Marathon clothing store on the car lot that he used to hustle on as a kid. Nipsey didn't just talk about giving back, he was about it. Hence him receiving genuine love from the world over.

Free thinking pioneer

So Nipsey Hussle was not just a rapper, he was an entrepreneur, he was a community builder, who was able to transcend his thinking beyond that of the street or set he represented. Whether it was Followcoin or putting together a Dr. Sebi film or selling his mixtapes at $100 each, Nipsey was a pioneer.

Rooted in the culture

Yet he never abandoned the area where he was from, he went back and 'bought the block'. It is a bitter irony that he was killed on that same car lot that is symbolic of his transformation. He owned outlets on the corner that he was run off as a kid and that he ultimately took his last breath.

Nipsey murder is sad and a senseless of loss. Not just of a great rapper, but a great human being in rap. It will leave many of us wondering what could have been.

Hi Nanzo
I did not know this man, as bad news and bad deeds travels farther and faster then good. However thanks to you, I now know of him and I morn his passing.

It seems another bright light has been snuffed out before it’s time. The wisdom of the creator is sometimes perplexing, but we trust it’s for the best.

Perhaps in some way the news of his death and what he aspired to do will somehow inspire others to follow in his footsteps and possibly emulate him.

I pray this results in duplication and multiplication of his efforts. As a no more fitting tribute and way to honor his memory would be if that came to pass.

In sadness but hope,

Yea man. Nipsey was so intelligent. Loved what he stood for. When I heard about it I was lost for words. Just senseless. I've been hurting for a few days now. Just sad.

May the soul of Nipsey Hussle rest now. Thanks brother man @nanzo-scoop for bringing this solemn news, together we’re mourning for a brother Nipsey Hussle 😔😔

🙏🏿

awwwww too bad today. May he rest in perfect peace.

There is so much more to this than meets the eye, he was involved in a documentary about Aids, a still not proven complex, by any definition of science. It is so sad that so many have been taken out to protect big pharma and the medical industrial complex, whose only interest is profit and control. Thank you @nanzo-scoop, since I met you, it has not gone unnoticed of your support as a newcomer to this platform, I hope I can repay you in subtly awakening people to what is really going on in this world, unfortunately Nipsey was not the first to be censored by death, OK, that is just my opinion, but in my mind it seems very obvious. Thanks again, big love x

So sad.. May his soul rest in peace and fortitude to the family he left behind.

That is very sad to hear rip.

Even yesterday one of my friend father also expired it is really a sad part of our life.
