In a Daze

I’m a huge fan of Bill Burr’s animated show called F is for Family. The show's comedy is well timed and the stories resonate with me. In one of the episodes, young Bill attends a baseball game and goes to the men’s room. There he encounters the most horrific scenes of hair, dongs and piss everywhere – it’s enough to traumatize Bill.

Something similar happened to me this weekend. I was using the bathroom at a well-known campground. As I entered my stall, I didn’t think much about the shower running in the background. It wasn’t until I heard someone say ‘easy…’ that my ears perked up. I strained to hear what was going on, again a man’s voice cried out ‘I said, take it easy!’. Suddenly, there was the sound of bodies slapping and intense groaning/moaning/screaming of men in a mixture of pleasure and pain. It was so loud and so unexpected that I must have looked like Bill when I left the bathroom. I felt sick, angry and disgusted – I should have said something. They had taken over a public space to do an unacceptable act – at any time a kid could have walked in encountered that.

Whatever you do in your home is your business but when you take it to a public spot it becomes our business and that's not fair.
