Our Third Year Anniversary: We Almost Didn't Do Anything Special But Decided To Head To The Gold Coast. It Was Worth It! Find Out Why...

Can you believe it? We enjoyed a magical walk in the late winter sun for a coffee up the road while our hotel was being prepared for check-in and we passed this wedding arch setup at a surf life saving club, no doubt ready for a ceremony later today but, let's just imagine that they knew it was our anniversary weekend and leave it at that...

Good afternoon Steemians!

This post will be short as I'm enjoying a nice overnight trip to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. I wanted to share a few thoughts.

My wife and I are one of those couples you only really see in movies and think to be fictional. We actually are each other's best friend. We complete each others...

...

... sentences, that's right!

Often life feels like it's "us against the world" and practical considerations almost had us deciding to celebrate the weekend at home. It's a cost, how will the horses be without us, blah blah blah.

Luckily only yesterday we decided that we would make a weekend of it and actually do something. I'm so glad we did. You see, you get entrenched into routine when existing at your home and place of work. Events of significance come and go and although you're aware of them, you don't actually feel them when you're in your groove.

Getting out of the normal grind and getting away from the places that occupy the bulk of your time is a very necessary tool to refresh your mental perspective and focus on the few things in life that are actually important.

Our private outdoor area on the beach where I'm writing this post... you can see why I want to make this post short, that water is calling!

It was a beautiful drive down to the coast, only a little over an hour. We deliberately kept the tunes off so that we could talk. Sure enough, we were reflecting on what we were doing at this time 3 years ago when we tied the knot at a resort in Vanuatu. Without the (albeit enjoyable) distractions of our animals, music, TV etc. we could take the time to reflect on where we've been, where we are and all the exciting things ahead.

So without getting too deep and meaningful, I can't express how important it is to psychological health to appropriately mark the passage of time and the arrival of important milestones. There's awareness of these phenomena and then there's really feeling it. One must strive for the second.

I often remark at people who have children. They are often so occupied with the well being of their own kids that their own life passes the parents by. I've on multiple occasions heard the realisation the last thing I recall of my own life was 20 years ago before the kids were born. It speaks to a gap in time of decades potentially that can result in a horror awakening when the penny drops.

...anyway, we're off to the hair dresser as a spur of the moment thing. Take the time to mark occasions, grab life and don't get stuck in routine too much!

Bye guys!

beautiful and amazing

Thanks @jhon007, and only an hour from our home. We should do it more regularly really!

Great shots and story. We stayed several days in Hastings Point in a caravan park cabin, not as luxurious as your spot but still pretty upscale - my wife even got a pedicure at their spa!

We just celebrated our 40th anniversary so you have a ways to go, but with your approach to life I'm sure you will make it! Following.

40 years! Wow my congratulations to you both @brightongreg. It's the company rather than the location that really makes the trip doesn't it. Thanks for the insight!

Great point - thanks to you too!

I need to get out more, that place looks beautiful.

It's world class, really lucky to have it on our doorstep. The greater region offers restaurants and leisure activities... well worth a visit. I've loved coming here since a kid. Thanks @sambullion!
