The Perfect Weekend: The Simple Things Really Are The Best.

Just a quick weekend post for today where I wanted to share another example of how the simple things in life really are the best. Yesterday, my wife was scheduled to work yet to our surprise, an early phone call provided us with the news that the shift had been cancelled! A day off together!

We thought we'd make the most of it so we first got a haircut for me. My wife does this, she's quite talented having done hair for weddings and the like before. I enjoyed it in the sun out the back getting a much needed trim.

Then we popped up the road to visit some friends for a brief while and then got the urge to do the old fashioned pizza, booze, icecream and movie night. Now I very seldom drink so this was something out of the ordinary for me. We went out to get the supplies and then came home.

Prior to starting the festivities, I decided to do a quick training session with Nayyerah, our young mare who we're breaking in. I again managed to mount her bare-back for only the second time ever. Those interested in more detail can read about the very first time I jumped on her back here. There's even a video of it.

With that success behind us, we sat down in the afternoon sun and started through some of our treats.

First was the noodlebox that we picked up for lunch. Boy it's expensive these days but again, we very rarely get the stuff so it was a real treat. How exciting!

...then came the collection of drinks. We selected only 4 bottles; a varied selection. My wife had never tried stout before (something that @meesterboom would be stunned to hear) so we just had to buy some Guinness. There was some Young's "double chocolate" stout, a lychee flavoured beer and then a good old ginger beer.

They all went down smooth... I'd forgotten what a head of Guinness even looked like! Very attractive.

By the way, the astute observer will notice the avocado seeds in the background of these shots. I'd "planted" them yesterday and am excited to see them sprout in the upcoming weeks.

Then we enjoyed some of the sun for a while with Nayyerah in the background and our lovely Ragdoll Katniss who loves her outdoor time.

Then it was time to head in, put the pizza in the oven and throw on the movie. An entirely enjoyable day and all for fairly little cost and complexity. The best days!
