Do You Know When You've Overstayed Your Welcome?

Have you ever been in the position where you've felt as tho your stay has been a little too long?

I know I have!

I can recall being at a friends party that continued well into the early hours of the morning and suddenly realising that I was the only person left at the party. The hosts enthusiasum was slowly beginning to change as the conversation was starting to stop and was being replaced with yawning and stretching. I of course noticed that it was time for me to leave and when I said that I was, the relief in the room was very noticeable.

Knowing When Its Time To Go...

We are not stupid, we know the things are not going to well or when things get awkward ad the longer we try and fight the common sense in us telling us to leave, the more awkward things become.

This brings me to my main issue: Arsene Wenger!
For those reading that might not know him, Arsene Wenger has been the manager of Arsenal Football Club for over 20 years and has long overstayed his welcome my opinion. The first 10 years under his management were amazing and he was hailed as the best manager of the time with his fresh approach that at the time was seen as revolutionary.

But things have now changed...

I Wengers hayday Arsenal were powerful, strong and had a fear factor that was rivalled by no other team in England, but if you now take a look at the team that Arsene has today they are a shadow of the great teams of the past. "Spinless" "Pathetic" "No Leaders" are the words associated with Arsenal now and heres why:

1. No Leaders In the Team
Since Patrick Vieira in 2005 Arsene has failed to get a player of similar stature and presence on the pitch who can grab the game and control it. The same can be said about David Seaman (Goalkeeper) and Tony Adams (Defender) to name but a few.

2. Tactics
Arsene has stuck with the same tactics since he arrived in 1996......yes 1996!
He continues to believe in not focusing on the opposition and only his team, which leads to Arsenal playing one way and not having a plan for any other situation that may occur in the game.

3. Player Development
Arsene has failed to develop young players and make them better, players like Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have declined under Wenger after showing early promise, which compared to other managers like Pep Guardiola shows Arsene lack of player development.

4. Team Management
Arsene is a firm believer in trying to stay positive with his players and not criticising them. This has been a huge mistake for him as players now take this approach too far as they now know that they will never be held accountable for their bad performances or even dropped from the team.

5. Performances
Over the last 10 years Arsenals performance have started to decline and recently they are declining rapidly.
In 2018 they have already lost seven games out of twelve losing their last four games in a row. They have gone from title challengers to top four contenders to now a top six team.

6. Players Revolt
More and more reports have surfaced regarding players revolting against Arsene with the latest being the players holding a private meeting without Wenger to discuss the performances of the team and the tactics.

I could go on and on but my point is its time for him to go and he has long overstayed his welcome. Maybe its the 10million that he's getting payed per year that is preventing him from leaving. If Wenger loves the club like he says he does he would surly see that the best thing to do would be to leave.

Lack of leaders and his arrogant tactics, or lack thereof, are the biggest downfalls IMO. I struggle to remember a strong Arsenal captain in the post Viera era. Henry and Fabregas were not real leaders, just the best player in the team. Gilberto Silva maybe to a small extent. As far as his tactics, at least they used to come off in an attractive manner. There was a time you won fuck all, but looked good doing it. No longer.
I slightly disagree with player development. I feel he has done a good job of scouting young talent, particuarly from France, over the years and making them into solid prem players. Those you mentioned in your article are certainly examples of where he has gotten it wrong. Lest we forget Henry was a failed winger at Juve. Around the time you lot moved to the Emirates you were a bit of a football factory for City and Barca, which spoke to his ability to develop: Adebayor, Sagna, Clichy, Hleb, RvP, heck even Ashley Cole all owe him a big debt of gratitude.

Wenger has given his life to Arsenal, if he were to be fired he honestly wouldn't know what to do.

If he really loved the club he'd move on though.

I wonder how Arsenal still won't sack Wenger. They have no chance to reach TOP 4, their last chance to qualify to UCL next season is winning Europa League, but they'll face with AC Milan, team that playing much better at this moment, mostly thanks to Gattuso, he gave this team second life and chance to bring back the glory to Rossonieri's. Maybe Arsenal owners should do the same thing and change old-fashioned Wenger on young manager with fresh manage vision.

Fair points. But does your opinion change after one victory, albeit a very exciting one against AC Milan?

Arsene Wenger just need to leave but to me, he is not ready, likewise, the board are not ready as well. Arsenal needs to try a fresh blood in the form of a new coach so as to help them change their fortune.

Just imagine if this can happen under Chelasea's board.
