Making Money on Steemit for Newbies

in life •  6 years ago

Hello!

You don’t have to tell me since I know that you are struggling to make money on Steemit. Forget making money, you are not even getting attention, correct?

Yeah, I have been there and done that and stopped doing any more of that on Steemit for nearly four months. Then it hit me that it is indeed possible to make money here and mind you Steem is one strong cryptocurrency, albeit the volatility that all cryptos are facing. So, try it and it will work.

What I am showing here is quite a simple way of making Steem or SBD, along with links to the individuals whom I talking about. So, it should take you roughly ten minutes to go through this post and you can get started immediately.

Makes sense? I am sure it does.

-----------------------------------------------******--------------------------------------------------

Now, making money on Steemit is possible in three ways and I am only going to talk about the third one at the moment. It worked for me.

  1. Invest your money, buy Steem, use it on Steemit, and grow
  2. Keep writing quality content, build a following, and hope to do well – Don’t get me wrong when I say "hope". I have seen few people succeed this way but then for many, it is a matter of luck! Besides, if you are lucky you may even be upvoted by @curie. Who’s @curie? Do a little search and you will find out
  3. Enter contests and make Steem or SBD - Like I said, I will be elaborating a bit on this one. It is something I did and it worked for me. This is for people who do not want to invest their money yet would want to make the most of their writing skills on the platform. If you are one of them then read on!

-----------------------------------------------******--------------------------------------------------

Entering Contests and Making Steem or SBD

As we speak, there are thousands of contests that are running on Steemit, you can choose as many as you want to participate to win Steem or SBD. There are many varieties too – photo contests, poetry contests, story contests, review contests and many more.

So without taking much time, let me speak about few of the contests that I myself participate or participated in the past. The only assumption here is that you are on Steemit so you do know to write. 😊

I will just name the contest holders, you can visit their blog page and participate from there. Check it out and see if it works out for you and more importantly, enjoy!!

There is no particular order here. Like I said, it is just the ones I participate or participated in the past or intending to participate.

1. @angelinafx

Now, this is the first of the contests that I participated over here on Steemit hosted by @angelinafx. It was quite simple and interesting one. The theme was simple. All you had to do is follow the various crypto-currencies and its rate and guess what it would be the next day. Sounds simple? Yes, it is.

The currencies that Angelina would usually ask for was Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Steem. Of course, the cryptos may change but the concept is the same. So, give it a try while having fun and what’s more you can win some Steem! 😊

The contests here are hosted daily.

2. @crypto.piotr

@crypto.piotr hosts few contests once in a while around the crypto-world. He is one person who is passionate about crypto and blockchain and has wealth of information around it. The best part is that he is a good human being, the kind you would like to have as a friend. Check out his site and stay connected.

Although the contests are at different intervals, they sure are interesting.

3. @originalworks

Now, this by far is the highest paying contest that I have participated so far. This would be for people interested in writing reviews. @originialworks hosts contest on different ICOs that are launching or about to launch and their concepts. Writers are given a free hand to write a review in their own words and being a bit informal is allowed. It is quite interesting and there are really good guys participating regularly. You will enjoy this one if you like writing.

Again, many think that only those with crypto understanding can write here, but that is far from the truth. If you can understand a concept, articulate it in your own words for your readers to understand, then this is the contest for you. The total prize to be won varies between 400 to 700 Steem in total every week. There is a contest running currently, you can check it out. If you missed it, don’t worry, you can catch a new one the next week.

This contest runs every week with 72 hours given to participants to come up with their articles.

Tip: Follow @contestbot and it will post a 0.005 Steem reminder every time a contest runs

4. @mediaworks

This is another interesting contest and is on similar lines of that of @originalworks. The only difference is that here you are required to make artwork based on the ICO or company in discussion. You can check out their site and writers and art-workers stand to win a total of 100-150 Steem in total.

The contests runs at regular intervals.

Tip: Follow @mediabot and it will post a 0.005 Steem reminder every time a contest runs

5. @f3nix and @bananafish

Now, this is one fun and interesting contest and not to mention the number of friends that you make over here. @f3nix and now @bananafish hosts contest every week on sci-fi complete the story. There is a prompt or story given and the participants have to write their own version of the ending in not more than 500 words.

It is quite exciting and interesting and the variety of stories that come out are mind-boggling. Try it out and you stand a chance of winning SteemBasicIncome Shares. What are SteemBasicIncome Shares? Do a quick search and you will like it.

Note: The places I am saying do a quick search means that they all are topic in themselves and it will take a lot to elaborate and we risk digressing from our main topic. Hope readers understand that!

6. @mctiller

This is one other interesting sci-fi story domain and @mctiller inspires us with his prompts every week. All you have to do is take the prompt and write a story of up to 2000 words. The winner takes home 5 Steem followed by 3 and 1 Steem for the 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.

His inspiration has been Harlon Ellison, who departed from this world recently. You can read more about the contest inspiration at @mctiller. The contest runs every week and is interesting for a sci-fi writer like me. Check it out.

-----------------------------------------------******---------------------------------------------------

Okay, now here are contests which I have just started to participate or not started yet, but find them interesting

7. @tygertyger

This is the newest of contests that I have begun participating. It is quite interesting considering that @tygertyger gives a mix of prompts and the writer has to bring all of them together to write a story. How cool is that? Writers can write stories ranging from 1000 words (minimum) to 3000 words (maximum).

I believe the contest runs at regular intervals. You stand to win SBD over here.

8. @monajam

This is one contest I am planning to enter. The most recent one just closed, so I will have to look at the next one. In my own opinion, it is about writing reviews about an ICO or crypto developments, as the contest explains. There is a lot to win here, the last one being about 200+ Steem/SBD in total.

Contest is held at regular intervals and you can visit @monojam for more details as and when the contest is held.

9. @calluna

@Calluna is a regular participant in few of the writing contests that I had mentioned before. In fact, she herself hosts a contest called “Tell Me A Story”. There is 5 Steem to be won over here and though, I have not participated yet, I may be doing soon. It is quite interesting.

This too happens at a regular interval and if I am not wrong almost every week. So, it’s fun. Try it!

10. @sankofa

@sankofa is the most recent of my finds. The idea is to share any folktale in an interesting manner. So, in effect it is an open contest and is up to the writer to come up with stories that he or she had heard as a child. I am sure every country has its own past glory and stories, so it won’t be difficult to find one. Take a look at their site @sankofa and get to know more.

This again is a weekly contest and quite exciting! Winners stand to win 5, 3 and 2 Steem for first, second and third position, respectively.

-----------------------------------------------******--------------------------------------------------

Rules

Also, all contests will have their own rules, so remember to read them completely before participating. But more importantly enjoy.

The best part is that many of the @curie curators have an eye on these competitions, so if you are one of the interesting writers then expect a visit by @curie and get a super-interesting upvote. Nice thing to happen!

-----------------------------------------------******--------------------------------------------------

What Else?

For those, who do not find these interesting there are many more contests like the ones where you have to post just some interesting reply, or if you like photography you can post photos as per the contest requirement.

Follow interesting people like @papa-pepper or @yallapapi, you may not know when you may hit upon an interesting idea by just reading their posts; not to mention, they themselves also come up with some contests at differing intervals.

Also, the points 1 and 2 that I had mentioned at the beginning can also be tried out and there are many authors who have written about it. Check them out too!

Find your strengths, find contests working for you and just get started. It is an interesting time on the Steemit Platform!

What a lovely surprise to see the Finish the Story contest included in your informative review, my friend and @bananafish accolyte @oivas! This 22nd week we enjoyed not one but three curie votes (on the 20th edition they were 5!). It's one of my greatest satisfactions to see the contest growing in quality and most of all in the friendship between the participants! Well done brave storyteller, tip! .. oh I forgot, we increased the pot and now every week there are 8 SBI waiting!

Hello @f3nix,

Ladies and Gents, one more host on deck! Thanks for visiting @f3nix and @bananafish! So that's it friends, there are 8 Steem Basic Income Shares to be won. That's amazing if you ask me!

Also, note that curie curators have a real eye on this contest! Surprise yourself by an upvote if you end up making an exceptional piece of work!

Dear friend, thank you again ..allow me, in my very humble opinion, to say that curie is of a capital importance for everyone who wants to grow through quality. In the contest I always tried to foster quality but still maintaining a fun environment.. hopefully, I see that this vision is paying back, especially the participants. You know that we're more than happy to have you with us as an asset of this ongoing creativity workshop. Resteemed.

Thank you @bananafish for your kind words and sharing your vision for the contest!

I have 5SBD as the prize for first place in every round, and if I get enough entries, I give away additional prizes. Then in part 2 of every round, anyone can vote for their favorite story, Authors Choice gets 1 @steembasicincome & 1SBD, and a voter also wins @steembasicincome. There are two weeks to enter this round, so plenty of time left for you to give it a go :)

Hello @ireneblessing,

So thoughtful of you to share with your larger community. Do share so that they can find a way of enjoying themselves here on Steemit. God bless!

hi @oivas

It's amazing that you wrote about me. I feel flattered.

Thank you for your constant support

ps. when my partner read that Im a 'good human being' she couldnt stop laughing. I wonder why hahaha

Yours, Piotr

And we have @crypto.piotr too! Do let your partner know that distance makes the heart grow fonder!! ;)

But thanks for your contest and it is a great way of engaging people to give their best!

Thanks for the awesome list!!! @dosdudes also have some great contests for SBI and Steemmonsters. 😄

Hello @definethedollar, thanks for the read. Why don't you elaborate a bit on @dosdudes? Helps the readers here. I mean, the format, is it a weekly contest? What are the prizes, etc.?

Seems like they have new contests just about every day...they’re a pretty new channel, so not sure if it will always be like that, but it’s mostly commenting or picking a number, very easy!

Ah, is that so. Not bad. One more good avenue for readers! Thanks for sharing @definethedollar!

@oivas
Thank you for sharing this informative post.
Stories base contest are tough but worth it.
I will try soon. Peace

Sure @oadissin. Not only story contests but there are plenty more formats of contests. On your search on the right-hand side top corner, put "contests" and see the many varieties that are displayed. See what suits you and participate. There are contests on games, guesses, good replies, fastest response, puzzles and many more. I have just spoken about what I do. The idea is to use contests to make money. You decide which contest. :)

Thank you @oivas

I will try this out. I am new to steemit. This article is very useful.

Glad you found it useful @crypto-earning! :)

A big thank you @oivas I am new to steemit it and really didn't know how to grow here. You have shown a path. I will try my best to follow your instructions and I hope definitely it's going to help me.

You are welcome @heartwalk! Always happy to help. :)

@oivas I don't have words to explain the way this article made me feel positive and motivated, I'm a newbie and struggling too and such posts really help me to keep myself focused on the work without bother about result.
I have a question, looking at the poor attention on my posts I feel like I'm not a good writer or content creator, Will you please help me to overcome that?

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Hello @sharmaakash,

I have seen one of your articles about twitter and you are fine. The one recommendation I have for you is that don't use Steemit to find out if you are a good writer or not instead say you are a good writer and make Steemit take note. :)

The success on this platform differs a bit from the others. I write on two other sites and there success is dependant on how fast google picks up your article. Here the challenge is to become visible above the noise level. For that, you may have to take the help of bots (minnowbooster, minnowpond and others) which is a topic in itself. But to use bots you need Steem or SBD and where will you get SBD from?

That's why my thoughts on how to make money. Now, there are many for and against the legitimacy of bots, but my point is that this site is designed in such a way that usage of bots is just fine. So, follow the model. Why fight it?

Lastly, the more important thing is to use the above examples of contests to write, earn, learn and reinvest into new articles and grow. There are many more. If you have doubt about your articles doing well, scroll down my blog page and see how much money my first few articles made.... Zilch... :)

So, enjoy yourself and all the best!

Thankyou so much:)

:)

I liked your post. Good approach and clearly explained. Thanks for your contribution for the steemian's newbies

hello @mercuryjav, glad you found the article useful. Hope it helps you in finding your footing around. All the best!!

Only heard of a few of these. @OriginalWorks seems to garner the most attention and the one I am most familar with. @CryptoPiotr recently held an excellent one as well. Much thanks for putting them all on this post.

Hey @machnbirdsparo,

Yes, the two mentioned and @monajam are the same format. The remaining contests are more to do with complete the story and likes. That is if it interests you.

Thanks for stopping by! :)
